Cook or Soriano?

Despite whatever shortcomings , Gary Cook certainly made a real effort to engage with supporters which seems to be lost at the club now. We are just customers it seems, which is a great shame imo.

Soriano might as well be the invisible man for all the connection he has with the core fans.

I remember coming out of the Monaco game absolutely buzzing and then I began to think of the disconnect with Soriano and was so saddened and affected by it. My mood changed to one of gloom and I just couldn't celebrate with the rest of my mates who were going nuts.

I thought how dare this man who is doing such a fantastic job with the finances of the club be so invisible to me. Until he makes "a real effort to engage" as the fan above stated I just cannot go to the Etihad any more....the disconnect is just killing me!!!??????.

But the question is what has he SPECIFICALLY done to improve the P&L? No one defending him can/will answer that question.

And I'm staggered you don't think clubs should talk to their fans in a meaningful way.

I didn't say that clubs shouldn't talk to their fans in a meaningful way. I said that SORIANO doesn't need to be doing that, because it's part of other's job descriptions. Khaldoon does it at the top level, Pep does it on an ongoing basis and people like Danny Wilson do it all the time. Manchester City is more public and open than it's ever been. I really don't know what else you or anybody else wants.

We''ve seen what happens when a CEO wants to be the story, and it wasn't pretty.

I'm afraid you've summed it up perfectly. I couldn't give a flying fuck what Soriano has to say, personally. I care what he does and he's doing just great.

Nice piss take .

With somebody else in Sorianos position we may or may not be were we are now, no way of knowing, but he's the one kept the club improving financially without rocking the boat , so he gets the credit.
I'll give him his due. He's certainly not rocked the boat and he's a heavyweight presence as far as European football is concerned. But can anyone say, with hand on heart, that we're incomparably better run than we were 5 or 6 years ago? People are saying they feel more disconnected from the club, which is the single biggest factor after results/trophies that affects us as fans. You can turn us into a slick, global brand without increasing that disconnect. The two are not mutually exclusive.

Whatever Cook's faults, you always felt he was on our side (as ordinary, match-going or long-standing fans). None of us seem to have the same feeling about Soriano.

Well everything is rosy in your garden then . You must be absolutely thrilled.

Like I said, CFG means nothing to me. I'm a Manchester City fan and don't give a fuck about New York or Melbourne. In fact I think they divert resources and attention from us.

And Guardiola would have come in the summer of 2012, before Soriano/Begiristain, if we hadn't won the league and Khaldoon hadn't given in to Mancini's blackmail.

I've heard this before on here. Is it absolutely true? (Not doubting you personally, but it would be nice to know if this is actually the case or is it just an opinion??).

Obviously we would have preferred to go from Mancini to Pep, without Pellers first, but can you imagine the shitstorm if we had let a title winner go right after he won it (think Leicester x1000) or is it that winning the title ruined the plan?

I loved Mancini and cannot imagine ever accepting seeing him sacked after a title win to make way for anybody. Admittedly I only 'know' him as a fan and I understand you and a few other posters have a bit more 'inside info' on his time at city etc, but equally the thought of being in the fourth year of Pep this season is pretty salivating prospect.

Interesting how things can change one way to another and affect the future so hugely.

Either way,it's bloody brilliant being a 40 odd yr old blue these days.

Don't you just hate it when one guy states that he knows what everyone else is thinking about a particular subject and then speaks on their behalf.
