corners !

They have the best defensive record for a reason and one reason is that they are very good at defending and that includes corners

i thought this a couple years ago, untill i was shown that we'd scored the most goals from corners in the league. i only notice when they are poor tbh but we were never going to win an aerial battle against chelsea tonight!

Obviously corners were not the big issue tonight but most teams would defend them well when they are almost going outside the box.

haven't we scored the most goals in the league from corners this season? Granted, Nasri probably took all of those

I think this might have been last season or if not then it was after three months or so of this season, whether we have still scored the most corners now, I'm not sure.

The thing is we have scored the most goals and may have won the most corners so these stats may add up anyway, but the fact is our corners success rate is probably quite poor. We do win a lot of them and Silva's especially are shocking.

We have some tall players at times on the pitch, obviously depending on which side Pellegrini picks. You'd expect our corners to be one of our weapons.

Nasri looks to be our best corner taker and then Kolarov and Navas. We should mix them up a bit more than we do in my opinion and I'm surprised we don't practice them more especially with a Negredo/Dzeko partnership on the pitch.

We just float them to areas where we wouldn't be able to score, even if we did win the header. Utterly pointless, we might aswell just take them all short like Barca and Spain. We barely won a header all game though, so I'm more surprised that we just didn't let them score from any corners (especially after the Spurs game)

How many crucial goals are scored when a corner is driven in. Dzeko had chances last night but the lad couldn't get any power on the ball 'cos is arrived like a mildly weighted balloon. Kolarov seems to be the only one who can drive the ball in, but he often doesn't realise his own strength and it's over the masses and out for a throw in over the other side.

and last night we had 2 good headers De Michelis and Nastasic stood on the half way line everytime we had a corner?????

Nasri is our best corner taker, by a country mile. We just have no quality second option when he's injured.
Its a F...ing corner for gods sake..........................although i agree that Silva should stay as far away from taking any corners....a world class player yes...but he tends to stroke the ball rather than force the ball.........

We're usually dangerous at corners but last night I think every single one was an outswinger that ended up around the penalty spot, there was no variety and only Mick McCarthy and Dave Watson score headers from 12-15 yards out. ;-)
