Coronation Street and football

Going back to C.St,City's programme used to advertise the Dustbinmen.

I take it you mean with only 3 letters in their surname (otherwise it'd be a bit easy). Without looking it up... probably not. Sorry, I've failed!

You're right about the Dustbinmen, and it was full of City references (including scenes outside Maine Road and at Wembley).

With Corrie, they sometimes forget their footballing history and so some characters tend to swap teams. I'm pretty certain this happened with the McDonald brothers. I think Andy was the Blue and Steve the Red (remember one had the 5-1 newspaper cutting up and the other had a Utd poster and they chose opposite teams to show how different they were). More recently Steve has tended to make occasional comments about City (possibly because the actor lives near Summerbee).

Nick Tilsley's character is supposed to be a red - years ago Martin told him he should support Utd because his real dad had been a red.

Jack Duckworth's character as at times been a Blue but the actor is a red.

Les Battersby was supposed to be a Red when he arrived in the prog (and he had that drawing on his wall of Busby and Utd heroes) but over time he tended to say more positive stuff about City (because of Bruce Jones the actor I guess).

Liam was a Blue (they sang Blue Moon on his stag do as well) but the actor was an Evertonian.

Interesting snippet.... the father of actor Roy Barraclough (Alec Gilroy) was Fleetwood's goalkeeper and was replaced by Frank Swift before Swift joined City.

The lad who plays Andy Sugden in Emmerdale is a blue - seen him at loads of matches and used to park near the bus depot when at Maine Road

As is the guy that plays Cain Dingle....seen him many times at the match.

Always remember Gerry Booth in the Dustbin men, he's sings a good one at the beggining of this episode. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_FXMGNBFJ_E

Yep, both Liam and Ryan Connor are blues.

Off topic but it's a travesty what they have done to the opening titles.

When Liam was in the show there was loads of references to City between him and Ryan On Liam's stag night they were singing blue moon David Platt (Corrie) one has City posters in his bedroom that rag Tina his ex must have been impressed

im sure liam (who was murdrered was a city fan) because maria (who starred in jimmy grimble) always mentioned how liam wanted to take his son to eastlands.

It's because the episodes are pre-recorded 2 or 3 weeks in advance so discussing the previous weekend's matches is a bit tricky! In the early days when the episodes went out near-live they did film a scene at Maine Rd IIRC. The guy who played Stan Ogden was a big blue in both senses of the word!

city v leicester 1967-68. the characters & some extras were congregated behind the goal at the scoreboard end a while before the game started. every now & then they let out a cheer. they went before the game started. i wish they'd come back. city won 6-0 that day & the episode featured footage of the game.

Cheers for that info, I couldn't remember which match it was but I should have done, that thrashing of Leicester was one of our best performances in the title winning season.

Think Chesneys great dane dog was called Schmeichel, now changed to Eccles
bizarre....

RIP Liam proper Blue

Sure I saw Martin Platt (Sean Wilson) at Maine Rd once but he may have just
been with Curly as his mate.

Les Battersby used to host the Junior Blues party at COMS
