Scotland data:

48 deaths - was 49 last week)

830 cases - was 1149 last week

Positivity 4.0% - was 4.9 last week. This is the lowest in long time Nicola Sturgeon notes adding the R is below 1 in Scotland for a second week

243 Greater Glasgow, 145 Lanarkshire, 116 Ayrshire and Arran

1499 in hospital (down 43) - was 1812 last week. This big drop means it is now below the first wave hospitalisation peak from last April.

Ventilated icu 109 (down 4) - was 127 last week.

A new daily report will give the number of long term (as in 28 days or more) icu ventilator patients.

Today that number is 28 (down 2 on yesterday)

Does anyone else just randomly get craving like urges to do normal stuff?

I am missing a lot of stuff at the moment, the simplest things, today it was getting on a train to Manchester and getting a Greggs whilst walking to the ground.

I’m sick to death of Zoom when a phone call will do.

We need a light, something to aim for
When I'm driving back after finishing my deliveries I sometimes lapse into "I think I'll call for a quick pint on my way home", then it dawns and reality bites, missing family, friends, City, golf, social life so much, a real ball breaker, still count my blessings though, loads worse off than me.

That all sounds great but then why is that bloody Grant Sharp saying no holidays this year when we are in February and hopefully all these positive things happen? Has he got a crystal ball, or does he know no matter what happens they are keeping restrictions going? This is what is depressing people, it comes across as they are drunk on the power of it all.
I think..you,ve answered your own question tbh.

Is exactly the point.

If life is reduced to constantly hopping in and out of lockdowns, continually distancing from others, being reduced to 'essential travel only,' then what is the actual point? Existing isn't the same as living.

That's it exactly. If anyone remembers the programme the Prisoner with Patrick McGoohan it reminds me of that. Everything was provided for in the village but controlled by the state but nobody was allowed to leave. It was living but not really living.

Scotland vaccination update:

1, 048, 747 First doses of vaccination given - 23% of the adult Scottish population.

63, 178 yesterday - a new record - up from 57, 447 day before

99. 9 % of older care home residents now vaccinated

97% of all over 80s living in the outside community

87% of those 75 - 79 and 54% of those 70 - 74

She did add that there is going to be a reduction in vaccination numbers in coming weeks and this is logistical.

I am guessing vaccine supply is the main issue as we seem ahead of the planned curve because this has gone much better than I think anyone dared hope.

She was clearly preparing the ground for numbers slowing in coming weeks.

I expect this will not be a Scottish issue but a UK wide one. So hopefully we will not be told in England after the media notice and report it.

Right, I'm fed up with some of the clowns asking stupid questions at the daily briefings so I've submitted one of my own. Says the cabinet office will contact me within 3 days if it's chosen. Probably unlikely but you can only try.

My question was along the lines of "Why don't the government set out a plan of lifting restrictions based on case numbers rather than dates? e.g. lift restriction x when case numbers are below 5000 for 7 consecutive dates."

My daughter says that putting "x" in the question will confuse most people!

Imagine this whole pandemic with no news. No one aware of social distancing, no one aware of masks etc it would be complete chaos.

the news you should be attacking is social media news, where people tweet or whatever that it’s all a hoax, stats are made up, the vaccine will kill us etc.

If everyone just had one source of news like the BBC only - the country would be in a much better state.
I for one am very glad the bbc are not the only news source esp. when it comes to Football, and City in particular.
There are far too many bad examples in history of countries having a single news source ..be careful what you wish for!

I am probably looking at this simplicity but once all the vulnerable people have been vaccinated why can’t we go back to a normal routine?

ok agreed, having one single souce would be a dangerous move.
but the problem we have is so many news sources, so much social media news sources.
It's a complete minefield, it's why there is so much anger and confusion around the world.
