Scotland vaccination update:

1, 048, 747 First doses of vaccination given - 23% of the adult Scottish population.

63, 178 yesterday - a new record - up from 57, 447 day before

99. 9 % of older care home residents now vaccinated

97% of all over 80s living in the outside community

87% of those 75 - 79 and 54% of those 70 - 74

She did add that there is going to be a reduction in vaccination numbers in coming weeks and this is logistical.

I am guessing vaccine supply is the main issue as we seem ahead of the planned curve because this has gone much better than I think anyone dared hope.

She was clearly preparing the ground for numbers slowing in coming weeks.

I expect this will not be a Scottish issue but a UK wide one. So hopefully we will not be told in England after the media notice and report it.

I think the Pfizer supply is going to go down due to manufacturing problems. Not sure about Astrazeneca.

My questions about vaccines would be when does Moderna become available? What is happening with the Novovax and J&J vaccines. Novovax has a UK production plant in Billingham and a fortnight ago they said that their vaccine worked against the SA variant. That news seems to have been buried. It's almost as if it didn't happen.

If only the team at Oxford could develop a vaccine for common sense, it would solve this pandemic quicker than anything else.

Common sense has got me pretty far in life, whether that is crossing the street at night because you can see in the distance a bunch of dickheads, or knowing when to keep my mouth shut because it could come back to bite me on the arse in the future.

I have really had my eyes opened to the paucity of intelligence and common sense during Covid, certainly in the UK and US.

Perhaps it is because they are two countries with a sense of entitlement, owing to the standards of living?

Why anyone feels it is an immediate priority to establish whether they can go on holiday at this time, when so much work is still to be done, is insulting to me in the extreme.

It is the height of ignorance to even assume that others countries, no matter how much their own economies or industries will crave it, should be waiting with open arms because some infuriated twat in the Home Counties is telling the Daily Mail 'it just isn't cricket' they can't afford to now go away because the cost of quarantine is too much on top of their already booked holidays to the Seychelles.

Apparently the UK deserves a holiday?

Guess what, the whole fucking world does and, until which time we can vaccinate enough of the globe to protect it, then making do with a weekend in Skeggy might be as good as can be hoped for.

And even that might be too much.

I think the moderna one is now being used, at the PC yesterday they said "one of the three approved vaccines", don't think the others are MRHA approved yet

Wales data:

27 deaths - was 35 last week

410 cases - was 544 last week

3.8% positivity

Weekly Pop Score 107 - was 111 yesterday and 127 last week

Wales vaccination update:

684, 097 first doses given - 28, 678 yesterday - up from 26, 659

3795 second doses given - 92 yesterday - down from 196

Moderna has been approved for weeks in the UK but the first supplies are due in the ‘Spring’ but unspecified exactly when. It’s strange as although the EU approved it a few days before the UK we had placed orders before them but they are already rolling it out.

The Scotland debate after the statement has been focused on border controls.

Nicola Sturgeon makes clear they are trying hard to get a UK wide decision on borders as they do not think the Westminster government are going far enough in protection of 'these islands' via travel restrictions.

Scotland will go it alone with stricter measures if necessary but there will obviously be problems caused by people coming into England and crossing into Scotland that way if they have a more lax policy in Westminster.

Hence why she is still trying to persuade the UK government.

She accepts England can do it their way but feels a UK wide agreement would be best given the nature of the island of Great Britain.

ok agreed, having one single souce would be a dangerous move.
but the problem we have is so many news sources, so much social media news sources.
It's a complete minefield, it's why there is so much anger and confusion around the world.
I would argue that the vast majority of folk on this site stick to a single news source..and are still confused.
And the anger is rising, judging by recent posts....

I don't think people have really paid much attention to how the companies themselves, perhaps through political pressure perhaps for business purposes, decide where and when they will seek Emergency Use Authorisation. Both Novavax and J&J have rolling reviews being conducted of their results (US/UK/Europe), yet from what I gather, it is the companies that decide when to apply for the EUA. For instance, J&J has already applied for it in the US, seven days ago, but I cannot see any report of it having applied in either the UK or the EU. So, if approved, I imagine stocks of its vaccine will be arriving there much earlier than elsewhere. Murky waters.
