Actually we’re missing the point here.

These people are retired. They have been asked to come back and help out.
wWhy make them jump through bureaucratic hoops to get them to do it. No wonder they are binning it off, I would Too.

Cos isn't that life serving in the medical profession? Isn't it always like that? Surely we should have been ahead of this months ago getting them ready for this moment. They're good people wanting to help out. A short mid morning course isn't a huge deal if it helps save lives is it? I presumed they'd be used to courses and so on being former NHS staff. It can't be a surprise really. If they don't want to do it, fair enough, but I don't think a quick refresher course is a great reason personally given they know this is probably normal in the NHS.

Yeah that's what's puzzling me. Figures seem at least stable everywhere else, I'd have expected it to be sky rocketing like us by now. It's just really hard to believe they've managed to catch every case early enough and take the necessary measures with it and it's not already going through communities.

It took 3 months to gain traction here. 1st spotted in Sept, wasn't until mid Nov it gained traction. May have a similar lead time elsewhere too.

That’s 30mins work.
Dentists and military medics will be aufait with most of the mandatory topics and will generally opt to take the assessment straight away.
Sticking a needle in someone’s arm and pressing a plunger isn’t the most difficult task in the world but when something goes wrong you’d expect the vaccinator to be able to manage the situation.

There's something I don't get regarding the new variant. They've found isolated cases of it in various EU countries, but for some reason it's not spread there anything like it has over here. It sounds as though they've been really really lucky and managed to catch the only very few cases withinn these other countries before it's spread any further, which seems unlikely given how transmissible we're told it is.

Even with the banning of UK flights etc, surely the chances are it was too late and already spreading, but we're not seeing that in daily figures at all?

On the subject of flights I noticed that there are quite a few going out today to places like Tenerife and Lanzarote and even the Caribbean. Presumably these will be to pick people up will they as I thought all non essential travel was banned ?

This is E-learning for Health (Government funded) courses that tend to be over the top. Most of these courses can be completed on-line quickly.

For NHS Trusts, getting staff to complete these stat and man courses contributes to reducing their insurance bills. All these courses might be overkill for volunteers, though.

I do agree but there are other ways, You have to be monitored for 15 mins post injection to monitor for any allergic reactions. could have an injection room and a recovery room. 20/30 people vaccinating and 2/3 medics manning the recovery room if something goes wrong.
