North West today had one of the biggest daily rises (1001) but on 4708 is still behind the southern regions who were mainly up by similar amounts - notably London and the South East around 1000 each.

South East actually becme the first UK region (or nation if you count the three nations outside England as regions) to top 10K cases in a single day since last mid Winter.

10,458 tested positive here today. It was 8154 last week. And 5151 just 4 weeks ago.

Roubaix, ref your graph on the boosters.

Only 86 people aged 80 and over tested positive in Northern Ireland in the data released today and only 702 aged 60 - 79,

These have fallen in the past week from 131 aged 80 + and 867 aged 60 - 79.

And two weeks ago the numbers were 174 and 890 reapectively.

The N Ireland cases each week are NOT falling. They have been pretty flat around 10 - 11K per week.

There can only be one obvious reason why this is happening.

I'm double-jabbed. Getting my booster shot on Monday. Feel a bit disappointed and uneasy whenever I encounter anti-vaxxers in life and have been really disheartened by how many vaccine conspiracies I've seen this year.

But this is an utterly bonkers move.
It's been quite enlightening that some people you thought were sensible and dickheads.

When we finally get through this people whom I'm close to will in some cases not be close at all.

When the hospitals are clogged with the unvaccinated and ambulances are unobtainable, that will be precious little consolation for the vaccinated who are anxiously awaiting emergency treatment.
Saw my mate today at Ashton Hospital where he works, Covid ward at “normal” levels but this time last year Covid patients were all over the hospital in different wards. Fingers crossed it stays like that and vaccinated, responsible patients get the treatment they deserve without coming into contact with dick head non Vax patients.

In South Africa, there were 274 hospital admissions attributed to Covid in the last 24hrs. The day before there were 135 hospital admissions attributed to Covid.

The mandatory vaccines

it’s not very in line with a liberal democracy is it.

Personally i’d be up for a jab whenever, had 3 now the moment I was eligable and had a dose of Covid on top.

It’s fine making life awkward for people who don’t want take it, vac passports etc, maybe even hitting them financially, paying extra 10% income tax?

But mandating them with possible criminal charges is way way way too far for me.

England patients rose today. Up 86 on 5915. Last Thursday they rose by 6 to 6068.

Looks like the downturn is slowly reversing.

Locally though the North West was the only large region (only other one was the South West) that actually went DOWN in patient numbers today - from 802 to 797. Also had the lowest admissions (Tuesday) at 80 down from 99 last Tuesday out of 699 admissions in total (up from 659 last week).

North West unquestionably is handling whatever is happening right now better than most of England. Especially the southern regions.

No idea if that will last once Omicron arrives in numbers but I presume the high rates from Delta during the Summer and early autumn in the North West are a factor.

Totally agree with this - there are many back doors to getting more uptake of the vaccine with both carrot and stick that have been trialled - recent policy by the Greek government is apparently yielding good dividends since announced. This separates the anti vaxxers from the 'I can't be too bothered' crew which I still believe heavily outweigh the former.

Greece to fine over-60s for refusing jab

Residents in Greece over the age of 60 will be fined €100 a month if they fail to get vaccinated against the coronavirus, under the first general COVID-19 mandate announced by the country’s government.

Omicron has a "substantial" ability to evade immunity from a previous COVID infection, according to the first real-world study of the variant's effect.

The finding suggests the new variant could cause a substantial wave of infections, even in populations with high levels of antibodies.

Well removing the rights of Jewish people is how it started.
Full Ostracision and Mandatory jabs is a very dark turn for state control as far as I'm concerned and should be resisted.
Enforcing the wearing of masks is one thing. Requiring vaccine passes to get into venues when hospitalisation figures are high is just about OK but Mandatory vaccination? Are you really OK with it? Where does it stop?
A couple of things. The tweet I was referring to was nothing to do with mandatory vaccinations. The official Auschwitz Memorial Twitter page was making a point about all these clowns comparing mass Covid vaccination programmes to the Holocaust. Ironically, many of those anti-vaxxers who have made such comments also happen to be white supremacists who are anti-Semites and think this whole thing is a global conspiracy and the Jews are in on it.

Secondly, regarding mandatory vaccinations. I too am not overly keen on the idea, but the notion that it could lead to something similar to Nazi Germany is a huge stretch. That would surely only be the case if Angela Merkel is actually another Adolf Hitler. And I think we can safely say that she isn’t.

That's probably what normal Germans said when restrictions on Jews started.
Antivaxers are loons and Antimaskers are total morons but where does this stop?

All the more reason for people to be vaccinated and receive their boosters in due course.

It probably is because Hitler basically duped them (and much of the wider world too). I highly doubt that Merkel has designs on gassing millions of people to death though. I’d also say that while I don’t agree with it, this isn’t a decision that would’ve been taken lightly.
