Does everyone need a vaccine before normality comes back? How much longer could people cope with this. Autumn is a long long way away
Thought the whole thing was about vaccinating those most at peril if they caught it. Once that % is done and hospitalisations and deaths go down then restrictions will ease ... shirley

I expect things will start to ease from Spring, although there will have to be some restrictions until enough people have been vaccinated to have herd immunity to protect those who can’t have the vaccine.

I know 4. All elderly, but went in with fairly minor things. Maybe why they’re ramping up the vaccinations.
They had an outbreak last year where around 50 people that they admitted to caught it having not come in with it. They then implemented new measure such as staff not switching wards which other hospitals had implemented months prior and seems like common sense.

Tameside very much the best in GM right now.

I have just seen they hope to have everyone over 50 vaccinated by spring. Why would we not go back to normal then???
As an over 50 I agree completely. No pissing around either. Once all over 50’s had it then full stadiums again next season. I’m really losing interest in football at the moment. Need fans back ASAP.

I went in tameside A&E with slight breathing issues and a funny feeling around my shoulders, in 2019. Turned out i had had a heart attack and needed a triple heart bypass. They most definitely saved my life. Nothing but good things to say about them. The staff were absolutely fantastic.
My dad had a heart attack and was treated there, and is in the best of health now (fitter than me), after good after care, so there is no straight forward answer.

we need so many things back. The government have to manage the handbrake release in line with vaccines. That will be the next thing people will attack. Too fast or too slow they can’t win. I think they have to be brave and release it aggressively. That will be where they will face huge criticism as sturgeon and starmer will say they are opening up too fast.

Believe it or not Tameside had the highest mortality rate of any hospital in UK for Covid after the first wave in late Summer.

Probably changed since then.

Just checked Barnsley and Wigan have now overtaken it but it is still third in the UK and with Blackpool fourth three of the top 4 with highest Covid deaths per population are in the NW.
Where does that data come from?

It may depend on what we know about the impact the vaccines have on transmissibility by Spring too, based on data posted on here I expect there will be a lot of eyes on Israel given their progress on the vaccinations.

I've just read the vaccine plan and it is an astonishing document. Link in the middle of this preamble.

The BBC take

32 million people vaccinated once by spring (March 21?) Covering 99% of the at risk population.

2 million vaccinated already. 10 weeks 6 days a week 500,000 a day if 21sy March is met - I can't see that myself. Probably by mid April @300,000 a day 6 days a week.

The biggest issue? The batch testing process for the vials

I'll treat that as deluded for now.

Worst day at my daughters hospital so far.
41 died today in 6 wards and the ICU that has spilled over to now take over the whole surgical suite + HD wards. Ventilators and CPAP machines now rationed so if you haven't got a good chance of survival you are now dead. 50% more machines than they had in April.
Tausami.

There were 2 wards at the start of November. All the hospital does now is Covid + Maternity.

Hopefully now the media will at last stop gleefully pointing out any possible loopholes they can find in lockdown restrictions as they did in November and December.
