I'm off here until New Year.

A reminder that things are infinitely better than this time last year.

My post from 23rd Dec 2020, close to as bad as the whole pandemic got in the uk:

Hancock:

“But we also know that Tier 3 is not enough to control the new variant. This is not our hypothesis, it is a fact and we have seen it on the ground.

So why the fuck are you leaving half the country in tier 2/3, knowing that the virus will continue to spread as a result, you fucking idiot? 700 people a day are dying already! How many more die before you follow your own logic??

This is doing my nut. How can he possibly justify this?

Merry Christmas blues. Let's smash Leicester!

Have a good one Roubaix.

Hey guys, sorry if this has been asked before but I was due to be bringing my ten year old up for his first game on Boxing Day, and have just tested positive for COVID, Merry bloody Christmas.

So my big question is can I sell/transfer my mobile tickets to someone else or is it just tough luck?

Apologies if it’s been asked already and thanks for any info!

You can either transfer them to one of your contacts on the website, or you can put them on the ticket exchange system and hope they sell. You’re best off doing the former tho to be sure they’re used.

Sky reporting that the booster wanes against Omicron after ten weeks.
Think they said 20-30% reduction.
Which raises the question what is the reduction after a longer period say 16 weeks ( about four months) and should we start planning fourth boosters from February?
From what I can see the reduced severity of Omicron could be offset by the greater number of cases and the reduced effectiveness of the booster compared to delta and the fact that it wanes against Omicron ( but not Delta) relatively quickly.
I suppose it all depends on how these competing factors play out against one another.
Disappointing that the boosters wane so quickly but most importantly they will get us through this omicron spike and through to a working vaccine in the Spring that should last a lot longer.

I haven't read the research only the headlines but I imagine that all they have done is take antibody assays of the first people who had boosters and reported their levels of antibodies. So we wont know yet how quickly the antibody protection falls away but fall it will.

The next race after this one will be to get a new working vaccine out before illness levels start to rise but it maybe that by then omicron will be regarded as less of a risk to us than flu, and we're always in a race against that each year but we don't typically think about that in the same way.

Jenny Harris starts the painfully slow grudging back tracking by UK scientists after they all dismissed out of hand the initial evidence coming out out of South Africa.
It's really worrying when medical professionals on the other side of the planet are more reliable than your own. Special mention for Dr Angelique Coetzee who was trying to give us the heads up but got ignored.

Its only a glimmer of hope though remember.

Do as you are told, remain gripped by fear and always, always expect the worst!
