WATCH AREAS

SWANSEA

Cases 93 - up from 85

Total 15, 303

Pop score up 38 to 6196

Weekly Pop down 25 to 280.

Better than anywhere in GM now. Over the hump I would say.

Those England hospital deaths should have this thread in shock.

But no comments?

I am horrified.

1012 in England in hospital alone.

Utterly tragic

We will have a giant number of deaths today - maybe over 1500.

Have we become so desensitised to the lives ended by the virus?

Or how we have got to this point?
Many occurred over the weekend. But yeah its horrific.
Sadly it will go higher yet next Wednesday and probably the Wednesday after that. The baked in numbers from previous new cases make it inevitable.
The new variant is a bummer.

It seems they don't have the supply to go any faster.
They do have the supply.
Read the vaccination plan.
The issue is batch testing and it won't be sorted for a week and a half. Specialised work and it can't be rushed as having a bad vaccine batch in the wild would be a disaster.
We could be doing 400k+ a day if we sort it though

Terrible numbers but not unexpected. I think it’s another 2 weeks or so before we see improvement. 194 patients in Warrington hospital currently. The highest since it started. 1500 plus positive cases last week. These decisions made at Christmas are really biting hard now.

There's a Brazilian variant? Fucking hell, this'll never end.
There will be loads of variants.
I doubt the mutation will be enough to make the vaccine not work, maybe less efficacious but I don't think any will stop it working. Not for a few years anyway.

Has anyone seen BlueMatt post? Know he was finding it hard and just hope he is ok?

NORTH WEST DATA

KNOWSLEY had 256 cases today and its Pop score rose by 169 to 8267. Higher than anywhere in GM.

Its weekly Pop score rose by 117 from 1344 to 1461. One of the worst in the UK and far above anywhere in GM.

WIRRAL had 427 cases - down slightly from 435 but still one of the highest yet. Its pop rose by 132 to 5489 and its weekly Pop is up 55 to 981. Again well above anywhere in GM.

LIVERPOOL had 621 cases - down from 700 and looks to be plateauing. Still double Manchester. And its Pop wet up by 125 to 7300. Versus Manchester that rose by 65 to 7309.

So almost certainly Liverpool will tomorrow have a higher Pop score than Manchester for the first time ever.

Liverpool's weekly Pop is at 1088 - now above the areas in Kent. And double Manchester.

BURNLEY had a better day and its pop score only rose by 99 - one less than Stockport. But at 8703 is the second
highest in the NW.

The only one above it is

BLACKBURN 156 cases today - up from 143. Which rose its Pop score by 104 today. Taking it to 9147 and heading to become the first 10% infected place in the NW which when it gets to 10,000 will be.

It has Merthyr in Wales ahead of it but their Pop only rose by 74 today to 9866 so might take another 2 or 3 days.

The UK has done extremely well with vaccine procurement but I'm puzzled with the situation with the Moderna vaccine. The UK got its orders in for this well before the EU but it appears the EU is starting to receive it whereas we won't until late March/early April.

Testing is part of supply.

"Supply" includes *everything* necessary to get to the customer.

ENGLAND HOSPITAL DATA Past 24 Hours.

More Grim News

Patients UP by 487 to 32, 689. Highest ever. Ventilators up by 132 to 3307 and now way over highest ever in first wave.

A week ago there were 27, 727 in hospital up 4962 in 7 days.

A week ago there were 2530 Ventilators so up 777 in 7 days

These big rises are very concerning.

I don’t think we were well before them with the Moderna one, but I imagine it’s down to the amount they are purchasing and they also authorised it before we did.

I've been very positive wrt the roll out of the vaccination programme but I'm getting the feeling that the government is being deliberately vague about 'supply' issues by inferring that it is because the manufacturers aren't up to speed.

Hopefully it is just part of the inevitable bugs and cock ups that you would expect at the start of such a huge endeavour but I will be far less understanding if they still persist week commencing 25th.

We and the EU made our initial purchases of the Moderna Vaccine in November. Moderna might have had a better idea of the EU’s intention to purchase earlier than that because it was linked to the EU’s procurement exercise. Both we and the EU have bought additional does recently.

The enormity of our failure:

Did we have a workable pandemic plan? No.
Did we have sufficient testing facilities as part of this plan? No.
PPE stocks? Not part of the plan.
Did we insist on Masks? No. Quite the reverse and this as a decision by our so called experts.
Did we stop international travel? No. Twice this has caused surges with the original and then the Spanish variant.
Were we prepared to properly quarantine/isolate people using modern technology. No. A violation of our rights apparently.
Earlier lockdown? Meeting minutes indicate Cummings was pushing SAGE two weeks before.
- Non of the above would have been different with Labour
- Trace failure - Government issue.
- Not locking down earlier for lockdown 2 - possibly the Gov but Wales and Scotland didn't do much better.
- Covidiots? Who knows. They shoukd be tazered constantly.

I always expected problems. You can't possibly scale something like this up from zero in a couple of weeks.

To be honest, I'm really pleased how well it's gone, both supply and actual dosing.

Getting cases down is so important alongside the vaccinations, so any interruptions or delays aren't disastrous.

As long as we don't relax too quickly, I think things will be looking much better by Easter (4th April). We seem to have peaked for cases. But Jan and Feb will be awful, I'm afraid.
