a question

my wife tested positive on monday the 4th
so we have to isolate for 10 days.
ive sent my test off yesterday, if it comes back say tomorrow does my wife have to start her 10 day isolation again ?, my daughter is waiting for her self test to arrive, if it comes today and we do the test and it comes back in 2 days positive, do we then have to start isolation for 10 days again ?
The answer is yes, unfortunately. Isolation from the day of the test not the day of the result.

No mate. I was under the same assumption when my wife and son tested positive days before me.

Doctors told me that once you are positive, the ten-day isolation period is exclusive you.

Previously, people were being told you had to start afresh self-isolation.

The only person impacted longer is the person in the household who was already self-isolating due to someone else testing positive within the household.

Once you also test positive, it is ten days from that point.

Eg - I had been self isolating five days due to my wife and son, when I also tested positive - adding another ten days to me.

Their own ten-day isolation remained the same.

Hope this helps mate, best wishes.

How vaccinations are proceeding in a few countries may be of interest.

It's on a log scale which allows trends to be seen even when differences are very large, but can be a bit misleading - the UK is further ahead of most than the chart suggests at first glance.

I've no idea what's driving the very different rates across Europe, but it's interesting that some are not so far off us now, but others are way behind.

Israeli rates are so high we should see an impact on deaths very soon, if they've prioritised the vulnerable (don't know if they have). So far, there's not been any obvious impact - deaths are rising very rapidly.

Uptake among the 21% of the Arab population, including those in Jerusalem, is apparently low, so it might be tricky determining quite how effective the vaccine has been. I think it’s only the Pfizer vaccine that has been used, double dose, and they hope to have vaccinated everyone aged 16 and over by May(?).

Once the person tests postive, it is ten days for them.

But the only person with the longest self-isolation is the person who tests positive last.

That is direct instruction from the hospital and track and trace.

Apologies if I misread Peace Frog, assumed he was asking if his positive wife had to extend her self-isolating period if his own test results comes back positive a few days later?

That is most certainly not the advice given to me by the hospital and track and trace.

Wife and son tested positive Dec 18.

I initially tested negative at the same time.

Wife and son self isolation ended Dec 28.

I tested positive Dec 22 - had already been isolating for four days.

My self isolation was supposed to end Jan 1 but continued to show symptoms, so extended until Jan 3.

My wife and son still only had to do the ten days and finished on the Dec 28.

Scottish data is really bad today:

93 deaths

2309 cases at 8.1% positive

692 - Greater Glasgow, 390 Lanarkshire, 220 Lothian, 192 Grampian

1530 in hospital - up 63 in day and now above the highest patient numbers in wave 1 in April

102 on icu ventilator beds - up 2. And double where it was week before Christmas
