I wonder if new cases are dropping because people are taking lateral flow tests at home but not reporting them as symptoms are relatively mild and people are just carrying on working from home as normal...
I think that’s a good shout along with people not wanting to self isolate anymore.

6% of the over 80s aren’t vaccinated nationally as I assume many of them have serious pre-existing conditions that prevent them from doing so. Add to that unvaccinated care home staff and maybe now family visits and it’s not hard to imagine that this very vulnerable group will have hospitalsations and sadly deaths.

It’s hard to imagine what more can be done as many of this group will also have life limiting conditions.
Yes, I can see that. Sadly.

Thank you for the perspective.

I think it stems from when my mum had a major stroke and after weeks in hospital and at first not likely to survive. Though she was only 76. They discharged her into a care home. She needed round the clock care and they tried to talk me out of looking after her as it involved rearranging my life. But I had promised her days before the stroke when watching Loose Women and they discussed would you put your mum in a home that I never would,. And am glad I was able to fulfill that promise.

I saw how hard the staff worked but also how I had to fight to get her out once my house was rearranged with ceiling hoists and ramps and she was able to come home. I literally had to give assurances to the care home boss I was not taking her our because they were bad carers - she told me that she had to justify everyone they let out! As if it were prison,

I told her that I had made clear from the start it was temporary and I was taking her home as soon as it was deemed possible. She said that they all say that but hardy anyone ever does so I need you to explain to my bosses it is nothing we have done.

I guess that has made me deeply suspicious of care homes ever since. Though I am sure most are very well run by caring staff.

Yep, and a mass turning off of the NHS app. I'm lucky that my job rolls on whatever, but for those that might lose their job, business or roof over their heads I can quite understand that they may have had enough.

It’ll be interesting to see what happens to the figures from nightclubs. We’ll see how bothered students are about getting tested.

I guess the only applicable figure at the moment is number of hospital beds being used.

I imagine most students are self indulgent, self obsessed nob-heads that think they are invincible, as I was at 18-20 yrs of age.

If you look at figures from distinct places around the world where the Delta variant is dominant, however, you can see similar meteoric rises in cases and then steep drops. It’s not always straight up and straight down, of course, but it’s a rather odd pattern. Most welcome.
