I know a few people mid 40s like me and double jabbed who have tested positive recently.
I realise the vaccine is far from 100% nothing is but surely if this is going to keep recurring we will be in an endless cycle of cases and a high death toll forever especially if herd immunity cannot be attained.

day by day, better treatments are being developed, aswell as the vaccine.
Covid isn’t going anyway, but life will go back to norm - it isn’t far off over here.

Its still an horrific number and average numbers on a daily basis. Like having a air crash every day really.
It's hard to have any optimism when we keep reading figures of this nature 15 months after the whole thing started.
Are the vaccines as effective as they think?
About 100 deaths a day is the usual figure in a bad flu season and around 1000 people die every day from cancer or heart disease. You have to consider the context.

Exactly, once those anti viral treatments come online,, it should make a huge difference. Hopefully one will be in use this year..we're close

Are they ill? Are they in hospital? If not then the vaccines probably did their job and there will be no cycle of high death tolls.
People's expectations of the jab are totally wrong. It doesn't stop you catching it, it doesn't even stop you feeling unwell. It's giving you the best chance at a) not dying and b) not being hospitalised.

Cases across the regions:

Change in last 24 hrs V seven days ago

SOUTH

East UP 591 to 2500 V 2678

London UP 892 to 3736 V 3874 - Big rises today and highest single region again but down wk to wk

South East UP 552 to 3500 V 3628 - Another big rise but down week to week

South West UP 910 to 3112 V 2721 - BIGGEST RISER AND UP WEEK TO WEEK NEARLY CAUGHT THE NW!

MIDLANDS

East UP 785 to 2703 V 2632

West UP 845 to 2958 V 2590

AS THE HOSPITAL DATA IS SHOWING MIDLANDS IS THE CURRENT PROBLEM AREA WITH BIG RISES HERE AND BOTH UP WEEK TO WEEK

COMBINING THESE TWO INTO ONE AS THE NHS DOES TOTALS 5661 - EASILY THE LARGEST REGION

NORTH

North East UP 92 to 1134 V 1294 - Still down week to week

Yorkshire UP 909 to 3307 V 3238 Highest rise by far in the North today today and up week to week.

NE & YORKSHIRE as Zoe and the NHS combines these two for the hospital data and this is now well below the Midlands but the second biggest area with 4441 cases.

AND

NORTH WEST UP 312 TO 3189 V 3195

Week to week the NW is all but flat again but is down (even if just by 6) and after scoring the same yesterday as day before is defining the word plateau.

Past weeks NW numbers are 3195 - 3608 - 3456 - 3043 - 3037 - 2877 - 2877 - 3189

Equivalent NW numbers a week earlier 2999 - 3588 - 3373 - 3311 - 2939 - 2451 - 2265 - 3195

Here are the week to weeks above:-

UP 196 - UP 20 - UP 83 - DOWN 268 - UP 98 - UP 426 - UP 612 - DOWN 6

GM numbers in past week 1279 - 1486 - 1452 - 1187 - 1308 - 1157 - 1160 - 1262

GM numbers week before 1251 - 1381 - 1331 - 1402 - 1160 - 906 - 901 -1279

Wk to wk :-

UP 28 - UP 105 - UP 121 - DOWN 215 - UP 148 - UP 251 - UP 259 - DOWN 17

Total in GM from the NW cases Total 39.6%. It was 40.3%% yesterday and 40.0% a week ago

YET ANOTHER PERFECT PICTURE OF A PANCAKE

FYLDE & WYRE (The Blackpool holiday coast) is showing big case numbers - around the highest in the North West - due to presumably packed beaches and bars post the end of restrictions.
Bloody tourists! ;-)

I'm having to self-isolate until Sunday night as a precaution after a contact I met last Thursday tested positive yesterday. My LFT today was negative but I noticed when on the tram earlier in the week that very few of the visitors were wearing masks.
