My niece caught covid last week - BIL next, then nephew, now SIL so full house with SIL.

All very poorly by flu standards - "worst I've ever felt" - but thankfully not hospitalised and hopefully will stay that way - adults are vaxxed.

Schoolchildren are now driving the epidemic, with more kids now infected than at any point in the entire epidemic. And we can observe the sort of spillover seen in that household is happening elsewhere.

The extent to which that happens overall will dictate the extent to which there's a knock=on to hospitalisations and deaths.

Of course, had we done what many other countries did and vaccinated our children over the summer, this wouldn't be happening to remotely the same extent.

the 406 was just the 58 daily deaths recorded as deaths within 28 days x 7

Ah OK, understand.

There's a lot of variability day to day so I don't think you can reliably do that. No idea why they report one on a daily basis and the other weekly

Why? You’ve just said all adults were vaxxed but still caught it. The vaccine doesn’t stop you catching or spreading it as your example proves, so what’s the point in jabbing kids?

Correct Roubaix - we called it in here on the dithering over the vaccinations. It has been driving the rise in cases in many places - a few days ago I posted the details showing this in Stockport. And why the cases are high but the hospitalisations have been falling and deaths seemed to have at least flattened,

Stockport has had about 3500 cases in the past 3 weeks - just under half are school age. About 10 times less in the upper age ranges. These are the most numbers in GM over that period.

But it will be leaking into more vulnerable family members and that was always the issue.

Even so due to the vaccinations and this massive shift in age ranges the number of patients in hospital in Stockport has been between 20 and 30 throughout. Very little different from past few weeks.

And the number on ventilators is actually down on 4 from 6 the week before and has been around 4/5.6 for weeks. Not going up at all. There have been 2 deaths in the past week.

So it WILL cost lives because of the delay but we are as of now seemingly getting high cases with relatively little consequence. because of the ages of those driving the numbers.

And as we saw in the hospital data last week - there were hundreds fewer in hospital in England last Friday than the Friday before.

Down from 5574 to 5036 across that 7 days.

And the ventilators also fell from 812 to 730 in the same week.

And admissions were over 100 a day down on average.

Things might well change this week but that fall as cases rose was directly down to who was catching it.

We now await how serious is the leakage into the more vulnerable family members as more and more gatherings indoor take place now the Summer is over.

SCOTLAND DATA

1 death - was 0 last week

2069 cases - was 2917 last week

9.5% positivity - was 10.8% last week

1023 patients - up 19 on yesterday - was 1085 last week - still not cracked the 1000 mark sadly.

76 ventilated icu - down 2 on yesterday - was 97 last week

I have been poorly since Friday, aching, temperature, coughing all night. I have taken two LFTs but both were negative. Could it just be an early case of the flu?

How long has Covid been around and you still don’t know that you can be double vaccinated and STILL get Covid!

Being Vaccinated prevents you if you catch Covid of not being hospitalised or dying..
