BBC really pushing the scientists out today with the message ignore the government being slow to do anything - 'Do NOT wait for the government to change policy' was the message of one just now...if you want a family Christmas do not wait for the government to tell you what to do - as by then it will be too late to ensure we have one.

They seem pretty fed up with inaction.

One of them is right. One of them is wrong. Guess we will soon see but this has quite a look of deja vu all over again. We were having exactly these discussions in here last Autumn.

Of course, the BIG difference is we had nothing but measures then to help reduce spread. Now we have the vaccines and it is at least a more legitimate option to focus on getting them boosted ASAP.
All rather fits with the pattern of governance across government in recent weeks: push responsibility away from the state and back onto the individual, be that a sector or person. In that sense it is at least consistent.

I feel sometimes when in shops I am the only one with a mask on! Yet cases keep going up. People are pretending it’s gone away. I have also noticed most people walking past the hand sanitizers now

I get looked at like I’m an idiot wearing mine. Defo in the minority. By a long way. Baffles me. Especially after recently being in Spain and Portugal and every single person wears one. No exception. It’s not difficult. Piece of cloth over your face for 5 mins while you’re in a shop.

Yes the governments messaging has been shambolic and they should be making it mandatory. But hopefully people realise they’re a joke and take it upon themselves to wear one for now.
Wear mine if on public transport 9 probably 2/3 times a month at the most & in shops all the time....only thing is they're more likely to pass it to mask wears than the other way round.

Must admit having an afternoon in the pubs in town today, then back home for the game & will be in/out of 4/5 pubs which is against what I'd normally do, so I suppose I'm slacking off a little too.

The BBC is full of shit not that the Government is much better, but it was a BBC scientist that suggested pregnant women should get vaccinated on the possibility of passing on immunity, bit of tough luck if the vastly higher % of rejection kills your baby, the big difference between last years measures and this years, is last years were more effective so far.

Without going all political there seems to be no knowledge bank and consistent re-activeness rather than being proactive.

Likely be the same to a fashion whoever was in power making decisions. The whole political spectrum seems to be another variation of the David Moyles 'I don't know what I'm doing' meme.

ZOE SUMMARY TODAY

MORE RECORDS SET

PREDICTED CASES WELL UP AGAIN- ON 86, 981 FROM 84, 842

THIS IS AGAIN THE MOST EVER RECORDED ON ZOE

UP BY 2139 AFTER rises of 1887 yesterday & 1132 the day before. The growth is continuing daily it seems.

It was 72, 526 last week. UP 14, 455 in week. The weekly rise was 13, 597 yesterday. So still inching up here.

ONGOING INFECTIONS - ALSO SETTING A NEW RECORD DAILY AS THE HIGHEST NUMBER EVER - ABOVE THOSE RECORDED IN MID JANUARY AT THE HEIGHT OF THE UKs WORST WAVE

1, 096 , 370 UP from 1, 080, 680 yesterday a rise of 15, 690 It was up 16. 531 yesterday so this daily rise seems to have started to slowly fall at least.

HIGHEST ZOE HAS EVER REACHED BEFORE WAS 1, 059, 670 ON 11 JANUARY.

OF COURSE DEATHS THEN WERE 1500 A DAY NOT AROUND A TENTH OF THAT - 150 - A DAY AS NOW - THE BIG DIFFERENCE LEADING TO THIS BEING THE VACCINES

Today week to week it is still going UP more every day - by a RISE of 107, 953 today after one of 102, 509 week to week yesterday.

So sadly it is not looking like we will be falling below 1 million cases in this wave as rapidly as we did in January just a few days after the peak.

THIS SEEMS A LESS DEADLY WAVE BUT ONE WITH A VERY FLAT UPWARD (AND PRESUMABLY SAME DOWNWARD) TRAJECTORY THAT COULD STAY HIGH FOR WEEKS OR MONTHS

Ongoing case numbers will always lag daily cases as if you catch Covid you will be a Covid case for a week or two but a new case only once.

ZOE APP REGIONAL NUMBERS

Current TOP NUMBERS:- ANOTHER DAY OF ALL CHANGE AT THE TOP AS SEVERAL REGIONS ARE CLOSE TOGETHER AND NUMBERS EVERYWHERE RISE UPWARDS

HEADLINES:- WALES GOES ABOVE 2000 FOR FIRST TIME EVER AND SOUTH WEST STILL GOING BALLISTIC

WALES
TOP and UP big too ON 1502 / 2004 FROM 1422 / 1908 - most ever here.

SOUTH WEST were a couple of weeks ago lowest in England and huge daily case numbers have seen it go second in UK and up to the worst region now in England. UP huge in one day on 1411 / 1707 FROM 1282 / 1565 - one of the biggest jumps I recall seeing.

NORTH EAST stays third after a slight FALL to well behind the two above on 1249 / 1857 FROM 1258 / 1866

NORTH WEST stays fourth but inches UP just slightly on 1315 / 1670 FROM 1308 / 1660

YORKSHIRE is fifth but UP too a little more and close to overtaking NW on 1276 / 1668 FROM 1253 / 1640

EAST MIDLANDS is in sixth spot though DOWN - on 1254 / 1645 FROM 1285 / 1679

WEST MIDLANDS stays seventh and UP on 1148 / 1529 FROM 1125 / 1501

The lowest of this England top range group are:

East England UP big today on 1154 / 1428 FROM 1086 / 1351

South East UP too on 1122 / 1318 FROM 1088 / 1281

AND

London - still the lowest England region but UP on 990 / 1236 FROM 981 / 1225

THE SOUTHERN REGIONS ARE GENERALLY RISING MORE THAN THE NORTHERN ONES ON ZOE AND IN REAL CASE NUMBERS FROM GOV UK

THE MIDDLE WATCH ZONE NOW ONLY HAS ONE NATION.

SCOTLAND up a bit on 727 / 1046 FROM 688 / 996

AND THE LOWEST IN UK STILL AND FALLING BACK NOW INTO THE LOWEST WATCH ZONE ALL ON ITS OWN

NORTHERN IRELAND
DOWN again and easily the best in UK on 315 / 1250 FROM 375 / 1363

ZOE NORTH WEST NUMBERS:-

In the NW they have both Liverpool down in mid 15 K and St Helens UP again on almost 19K

BUT Warrington falls again on 20, 681 amd now fallen from highest in the Merseyside area as Wirral has shot up over past few days to one of the worst in the region on 26, 853.

The Fylde coast area has STOPPED rising but is still on some very high numbers - Fylde on 19K & Wyre happily down a lot though still the most in the region on 39, 891.

Though the Lake District is going UP again on 25K and Lancaster/Morecambe UP too on 20K

Cheshire East is UP again on 20, 001 FROM 19, 456 v Cheshire West UP on 25, 007 - so East still behind but both rising.

Cheshire West now above ALL of GM. And Cheshire East almost level with Stockport which is still falling (though slowly) so could overtake its GM neighbour any day.

As for GM - Headlne - Stockport falls for 6th straight day still only inching down not dropping much BUT the very fast rising neighbour boroughs of Oldham and Rochdale BOTH overtaken it as new leaders in GM.

The GM order according to Zoe with to nearest K numbers is:-

Fast rising Rochdale which has gone up 16K in 10 days takes over TOP spot today as has looked inevitable for days - though a more modest riseof around 1500 today now on 22, 616 . Oldham seems to have been dragged up by its neighbour and now second - up the most today and the fastest riser this week with a leap of 15K in just 4 days & up today 3600 now on 21, 521. Stockport falls into third mostly because of those big rises ahead of it as it is DOWN again - though its recent run of modest falls were increased today and it was down by over 700 - most in ages - ONTO 20, 908 FROM 21, 640. And - just as in the real case numbers -Manchester is coming after it and now rising quite steeply on Zoe. Up big today on 19, 151 FROM 16, 663 and may go above 20 K tomorrow for first time in ages. Bury is next also steadily rising and now over 15K as Wigan continues to fall to just under there. Trafford still going down slowly too and just 100 behind Wigan in the high 14Ks. Tameside next DOWN more slowly just under12K. Bolton edges UP today but on just 11, 222. But enough to leave Salford top of the tree after dropping 5K over the past week and now on 10, 868. Looks like theyare over their big rise and hump and may finally give GM a lower watch zone sub 10K borough any day now.

THESE ZOE NUMBERS ARE PRETTY GOOD MATCHES FOR WHAT WE ARE SEEING IN THE REAL CASE NUMBERS AND WEEKLY/MONTHLY POP SCORES FOR THE TEN BOROUGHS

As a fwiw, adding a space after the comma on a five figure number doesn’t half fuck the look of the sentence up on an iPhone.

It should always be 12,345 and never 12, 345.

The comma is very important for hen it comes to writing numbers.

Sorry no idea how an i phone works. Don't have anything newer than a landline.

Will try to break that habit but cannot promise as I have been doing it for years.

But feel free to shout COMMA at me if I lapse to remind me not to do it!

There’s a lot wrong with this, but for starters which bbc scientist are you referring to?
