Just a headline. Details in the other thread, but the good news is the lowest cases for a month reported in England today. Good start to the weekend to cheer you up.

Good news indeed - significant week to week drop now evident in cases, though hospitalisation flat and deaths steadily increasing.

Hopefully the case drops will feed through into those, and boosters will also stay to impact them. Need those boosters boosting!

I would not say the hospital numbers are flat in England and Scotland over the last two or three days.

Wales and N Ireland is not doing the same I agree but England & Scotland are the big majority of the numbers in the UK. And the fall this week in England stands out to me after a month of going up.

No arguments there. I was quoting overall uk weekly, which is 3.5% up week on week (deaths up 12%)

Future trends very unpredictable atm.

I agree especially with the shift in age ranges - fewer under 20 - more over 60. That will move the balance of more serious illness and death as we progress if the booster jabs do not restrict it in the older ages over the coming two months. As hopefully they will.

The younger boom in cases is over and is why numbers are down but it leaves a lower case level with a higher risk profile. Not sure how that will balance out in the weeks to come.

There are large numbers of vaccinated people catching and spreading covid so what is the vaccine passport for exactly?
I am pro-vaccination but believe this is a fair point. It seems to me that the horse has bolted. I think it might make sense for a country with low infection rates to have vaccine passports but I can't see the point in the UK where the experts have told us that more than 90 per cent of people have some form of immunity either from vaccination or having had Covid. Personally I don't think the Government will introduce it on a large scale.

Christmas this year is going to be very hard to judge right. A lot caught it last Christmas and there were at least some though temporarily reduced restrictions then and no other risks around like flu.

This year all restraints will be off, the belief this is largely done is widespread and super colds and flu will be around as well as Covid. Family gatherings could brew up quite a storm. But nobody is going to stop them happening with abandon this year.

It may be in the lap of the Gods and the efficacy of the vaccines and the boosters especially how we fare over the holidays.

I caught what I thought was a cold in Tenerife a few weeks ago. As I was there for four weeks I thought dose myself up with cold relief tablets for a couple of nights and I'd be fine. It wiped me out for a week, horrible irritating cough and is still lingering a week after I got home. I tested negative for covid so I guess as you say super colds are loving the ability to spread again
