How ridiculous is this?

From 4am 7th December you need to take a test within 48 hours of travelling to the UK.... however, if you're travelling and returning to the UK within 3 days......

From the governments website...

Taking your test in the UK before travel

If you are returning to the UK within 3 days, you can use the result of a COVID-19 test that you take in the UK before you travel. You must use a private test provider for the test and not an NHS test.

The service on which you will arrive back in the UK must set off for the UK within 3 days of when you took the test.

So you test negative before you go abroad, you then, for example, go to a party and unknowingly catch Covid, but you can come back to the UK without a negative test because you tested negative before you left the UK.... REALLY?

A nice timely boost for the profits of those supplying these tests at ridiculous prices.

The covid industry is booming

Was exactly same when we went to Champions league final nothing really new about it, two day test on return.

It will likely also have an enormous effect on the psychology of hospital staff. Imagine having to save the life of someone whom you know has ignored all medical advice- may even do so in the future- while you refuse treatment to people who have followed advice but now finds themselves in desperate need of treatment. That’s before you think of the psychological impact on the bereaved families. How do they perceive ‘society’ per se after witnessing their family member tossed aside?

The NHS should not be prioritising the lives of thick anti vaxxers over people who need medical care through no fault of their own.

It’s baffling to me that this is going on.

A bit more data emerging on uk prevalence.

Still very early days, caution needed on conclusions, but still consistent with 3 day doubling time.

They have only just introduced the need to test before you fly back to the UK but if you're only there for 3 days you don't have to have a test when you fly back.... you have to gave one before you go and test counts as your test for entering the UK and not bringing the virus with you. Senseless.
Do you not have to retest within 2 days of return?
Yes.. but what is the point of everyone being tested to fly back if you don't have ho of you're only away for up to three days? If you're away for three days you could go kn a binge, get legless, snog anyone you want to (or who will let you ) catch Covid then come back get on a crowded tube and train and bus....

re-introduced I'm sure lads who spent more than 3 days in Porto had to had a test to come back less than 3 same test could be used don't know but is it something to do with when you become contagious.

UK numbers today

54 all settings deaths - was 51 last week. England 41 of them - was 40 last week.

43,992 cases - up 6311 on last Sunday. England up 5260 on 37,396

I get the feeling some areas of the media are sensing that their days of gruesome newsome are numbered.

"Scientists are racing to establish the variant’s transmissibility, effect on immune system and chance of hospitalisation or death"

Really pissed off.#

Decided we have to cancel our trip to Stockholm for four days on Saturday to see our 20 month old Grand Daughter.

At least we can claim BA travel vouchers for future travel. The risk of the growth of the Omicron strain and all the complications that come with it are just too risky.
