Coronavirus (2021) thread

Just got back to us they have said they are overrun with tests and we should find out in the next 72 hours.

Best with that. On a wider scale it shows that the current figures must be an underestimate as they're at least a couple of days lagged.

That data isn't far off of the vaccination rates either.

South West has the best vaccination rate in England (at least the vaccination map appears to show that) and they have the slowest doubling rate.
If it takes 2 weeks to activate, it might be too late if we’re all going to get it in the next fortnight.

Yes, I'm afraid I was pretty rough. Only just ventured out of the house again today. But mine was Moderna, so hopefully you'll be fine.

I never thought a Moderna booster would give me anything more than a sore arm and maybe a few hours of the chills if I was unlucky, and the Monday after the jab was fine, not even a sore arm. Tuesday morning also fine, but by noon I was shivering to the point I had to stop work and get into bed with an extra blanket. Temperature up to 40C and was on and off with that for Tuesday and Wednesday. Too hot then too cold, no appetite at all, earache and tinnitus.

Yesterday started noticing I was not able to take deep breaths too and today although I feel much better I still have this tight chest and shallower breathing. I've taken two covid tests since Tuesday as I thought I just have caught Omicron coincidentally but apparently not.

All that from a booster! Even the first AZ jab didn't give me this much to contend with.
I felt like that after my first AZ jab. Was totally fine with the 2nd. My dad had Pfizer and got a bad case of shingles. He had moderns for his booster and felt ok

I dread to think how bad it could get. Hopefully symptoms aren't too severe.

I just hope any unnecessary deaths are avoided and that those who haven't been vaccinated, either see sense in time or don't come to regret it when it's too late.

well its just point blank wrong. Conpulsory vaccination is the route out of this mess. These incredibly selfish ignorant people are putting the health care system under strain its that simple. And it will be because of them that 100s of thousands of people will lose their businesses.
Not just that but they are occupying hospital beds that might be needed by those who have got themselves vaccinated. I know I would be by myself if me or one of my family (all jabbed) came to harm because of lack of beds due to Non vaccinated people occupying them.

NHS will never refuse treatment to anyone, but it doesn't sit right with me. Please dont ask me what the solution is, because I have no idea

There's now a daily omicron report from ukhsa

Incredibly, doubling times in nearly every region are below two days.

That means the number infected today are probably at least 4x higher, maybe 10x higher than the cases reported in the headline figure.

I expect we'll run up against testing capacity very shortly.

I'd never have believed this rate was sustainable to this number of infections.

1.5 day doubling time is ~30 fold in a week.
A 1.5 doubling time is mind blowingly fast. No wonder it feels like March 2020 where people are coming to terms with this as different rates. If you miss a newscycle the picture has already changed. Bonkers.

Compulsory vaccination is a different argument though, and I wouldn't be against it if it happened. Asking doctors and medical staff not to treat people though is something that won't happen and I would be against.
half way house then, only treat the unvaccinated if you have private health insurance to cover hospital treatment for covid.
