I think it made sense.

I’m 34, healthy and triple jabbed.

My “fear” if I caught it today would be cocking up Christmas plans, not really fear of getting seriously ill.

It’s the same for most people now I think.

mine too, but then if most people believe it would be like a bad cold or flu at worse, then why are we so accepting of the restrictions.

at least it’s a better message than kids don’t kill your granny. Last years Xmas message.

2 people i went gig with Sunday have tested positive

I feel pretty ill, headache, ache all over etc - still testing negative

Just a matter of time ?

This. In a similar boat. Christmas last year was really low key, scaled back. As an adult I can handle that and could do so again, but when kids are in the situation it's stressful as hell hoping that they get to enjoy it properly. It's where memories are made and I can't be doing with them missing out on an important part of childhood most other people get to enjoy.

I'm hoping we all avoid it at least until after Christmas. After that I'm not too worried in general, although there will always be that seed of doubt and hope we're not one of the unlucky one's because I'm aware of the danger this can pose.

Glad you got through it mate. I'm in my 50s and overweight but got lucky when I caught it as apart from flooring me for a couple of days it wasn't too bad. I did have the trots fòr a bit too but I've had worse bouts of illness than that in the past. It just shows with your experience and being fitter than me that the effects on people can be totally random.

As for the last bit, you're bang on. We have witness evidence from yourself and many others on here telling us how bad you were when you got it, along with plenty saying they've lost friends and relatives to it, yet there are still people on this forum who are pretty much denying that it exists. How much more evidence do they want? Also, whenever an account like yours gets posted, these cowardly cunts dive for cover and are nowhere to be seen.

For those having breakfast or a nervous disposition please don’t read the following

March 2020, Cheltenham week, I was in Sheffield on a delivery, it was very cold so I had several layers on, farted and followed through.

I stopped the van, climbed in the back to “clean” myself up and the door closed on me, as I was taking my jeans off, the floodgates opened and liquid shit just drained out of me, I couldn’t stop it. I was covered in natures waste. Took my hi viz off, my gilet and jumper to clean myself up. Went to open the door of the van, keys were in the ignition and phone in the cradle and it had locked. Van has a bulk head so no access to the front, I was trapped, shit all over the van ply lined floor.

My only way out was to open the cage on the bulk head and crawl into the front but it was such a small opening I didn’t think I could get through, it was my only option.

As I attempted it the floodgates opened again, nothing I could do. I did make it through, relieved but once again covered in shite. I still had a delivery to make. Got another hi viz and used my notepad to try and clean up. Got the parts out of the van, put them in the customer’s yard, rang the bell and asked them to carry into the factory from about 20 yards away.

Got home, stripped off, full of the brown, it had even run into my work boots which I binned, Mrs H bless her got all my gear and put it in the wash, that was apart from the hi viz involved in the second incident, I discarded that at the side of the road where there was a load of rubbish (I know, fly tipping which I’m ashamed off but not thinking straight). I returned to that company this week and what a surprise the hi viz was still there, picked it up and discarded

Was really ill after that, all the symptoms of Covid but no way of knowing as I couldn’t get in the Docs and the nearest test centre available was Glasgow.

I shudder to think what I would have done if I couldn’t get out of the van, it was an industrial estate on Friday afternoon, worst experience of my life

Agree that it's shit for hospitality and agree that Johnson is a bellend but I'm not sure what other message the leader of the country could've sent out regarding a rapidly spreading new variant. Nothing wrong with saying get your jabs and get your booster, and asking people to limit their social contacts where possible is just commonsense really. I'd expect pretty much every other government around the world to put out a broadly similar message.
Ok for clarification I dont think Whitty should have got involved in public policy advice. It was a good cop bad cop approach and Johnson wanted to state the good news not the bad stuff that Whitty was set up to say.

Well, I'd guess society largely isn't, which is why we're in a vastly different situation to last year. Current restrictions don't touch where we were last year.

Maybe because while it might well be that for most people, there are still people out there who will get seriously ill and die from it. My dad's 82 and triple jabbed but I'm fucked if I'm meeting him for a pint down the pub on Sunday as I don't want a situation where I unknowingly have it and pass it on to him, and in turn it puts him in hospital or worse. No way do I want that on my conscience.

We’ve not got kids but we are planning to go to the in laws at the other end of the country, which we had to cancel last year. So understandably me and the mrs (well mostly her) are both wary of catching it between now and Tuesday when we set off.
