Omicron wasn’t around 9 weeks ago. It’s moved so quickly tho. 1st identified Nov 24th so 3.5 weeks. Even if think it be was in SA for a couple of weeks before being identified it’s only 6 weeks or so.

Its thought Omicron has been around a lot longer maybe up to more than a year ago, the genetic sequences are similar to what scientists were seeing to other variants back then. Going through someones immune system who found it difficult to fight off has given it the opportunity to change to where it is now.
