Piete's still smashing it.

To put that 0.16% CFR for Omicron in perspective (amongst a population with only 1/3 vaccinated), normal influenza has a CFR of 0.1%. It’s amazing news.

When you then look at the assumed IFR of 0.016%, it’s then very clear that influenza is considerably more deadly than omicron (based on that real world data in RSA).

Also agree with this further down the thread:

Looks like the models are going to be way way off again.

and more good news (from the Telegraph behind a paywall but reproduced):

Seems to also say the vaccines also have a greater impact than first thought.

This could be summer 1920 all over again, when Spanish Flu did similar.

Don’t want to get my hopes up too much but this is looking better and better.

Things seem to be looking up a little band then watching the paper review it looks like we're all going to die again.

I'm glad there's some good posts on here on real figures rather than the mainstream press.

To be fair, my article which has great news (on U.K. hospitalisations) is from the Telegraph.

But it does appear that the guardian et al are simply after bad news clicks rather reporting of the facts at hand.

Tbh if you was on that concourse today pre-match or at half time then you’re testing tomorrow and hoping for the best!

Yeah it's not 100% doom & gloom in the press but similar to Samuel in the Mail in football anything with a differing viewpoint gets swamped by the rest.
