More calls for action

75% people in the country are already living under measures that have no difference to the economy than a full lockdown, including the biggest economies in the whole of the country.

A national lockdown has a better impact, we know, people take it more seriously, it’s proven to work to a greater degree than staggered tiers.

There's plenty that can be locked down still.

- Schools
- None essential manufacturing
- None essential warehousing
- The majority of the delivery network. Royal Mail, DHL, UPS etc if the above two are closed
- Construction
- Cafes providing takeaways. I saw a queue of about 20 people huddled together in a queue outside today in a small town.
- Golf courses
- Places of worship
- Motorsport facilities. I'm sure Red Bull, Mercedes etc and others are currently working flat out for the next season. Then you have the many other types of Motorsport companies that I'm sure will still be open.
- Car show rooms (Are they still open?)

That's the ones that have come to mind. Some more important than others. I'm sure there's more.
Private and commercial flights.

And where are people catching it?
Mostly in care homes from staff who caught it from there own household members who caught it going shopping before Christmas or from school the week before that. Interestingly "other ethic" has also gone through the roof in resent weeks- not asians, or blacks or whites so who I'd love to know who.

So based on that, everyone in a care home should be inoculated in the next two weeks - then find out what this "Other Ethnic" groups are doing and stop it.

I can see the massive difference between NI, England and Wales, not.

Not exactly disproving my point is it?

What was your point again?

Mine is that cases and deaths are out of control, and exponential growth will outrun vaccination. So we need action to control the virus while we vaccinate; previous lockdowns have been highly effective in achieving that, here and elsewhere.

Well that's why these places are still open I guess. The pandemic has always been a balance of lives and money.

Some of those on the list could definitely be shut if they really wanted to get the numbers down though.
But if schools shut , how can people work who can’t work from home ? Goto grandparents house

Some people seem to think those that don't come in are somehow 'shirking' work.

I make sure to thank those that are working from home as for some people it's tough and most importantly their decision to stay away from others helps everyone out.
Our place have completely embraced it. Before lockdown we had to do 37hrs but only had to be in the office between 10am and 3pm with earliest start 7am, latest finish 6:30pm. So basically you just managed your hours around those rules.

Working from home now you have to do 37hrs still but we can work whenever we want, into the night or really early, anything goes. It's been great really for flexibility, it means you can have a massive lie in (no 45 minute commute either) or do some odd jobs and work later etc. I bet I've saved over a grand in petrol.

So you'd think that this would cock up everything and no-one would be working but I can remember the companies productivity results out at half year, up 6%... Sickness is the big one and that fell by over a half despite many with COVID and isolation etc.

Home working is definitely the future, it's tough mentally because you're stuck at home all the time but flexible mixed working in the future will solve that once COVID has gone. It sounds like we won't go back until summer but we've been told the old rules will be gone when we do and a whole new policy involving more working from home is being drawn up.

I don’t support a circuit breaker, we need a full lockdown for 8 weeks to start off with.
Tbh I’m not bothered what they came up as nothing seems to work apart from locking people in and locking arrivals out.
My point was the stupid tweet that said SAGE have been going on about a circuit breaker for three months. Which proved fruitless in both NI and Wales. Too many people post tweets from a Doctor as though they are gospel.
I wonder if they would have been ‘following the science’ if it had been Dr Andrew Wakefield tweeting his research?

Like I said some are more important than others. Schools are definitely dodgy ones because they have a big knock on with getting parents to babysit them.
