Coronavirus (2021) thread

What was your point again?

Mine is that cases and deaths are out of control, and exponential growth will outrun vaccination. So we need action to control the virus while we vaccinate; previous lockdowns have been highly effective in achieving that, here and elsewhere.
If you have difficulty following a point over a couple of posts after putting up another ridiculous tweet then you might as well give up.

FOLLOW THE SCIENCE!

Tbh I’m not bothered what they came up as nothing seems to work apart from locking people in and locking arrivals out.
My point was the stupid tweet that said SAGE have been going on about a circuit breaker for three months. Which proved fruitless in both NI and Wales. Too many people post tweets from a Doctor as though they are gospel.
I wonder if they would have been ‘following the science’ if it had been Dr Andrew Wakefield tweeting his research?

You've entirely misread the twitter thread. It's a comparison with sept, not a call for a short circuit breaker.

The point being made is that SAGE called for a circuit breaker in Sept, yet now, when things are far, far worse and the govt is not even doing as much as was recommended back then.

Now, it's clear. Things are close to catastrophically bad. We need to stop everything possible. Immediately. Or the virus will outrun any feasible vaccination programme.

GM SCOREBOARD

WIGAN 338 - up huge from 182. Total cases 19, 901 Weekly 1175. Back over 1000 in week sadly. Pop score up 103 to take Wigan into the 6000 club at 6055. Highest GM Pop rise in a long time. Weekly Pop up 77 to 357. Really bad day here.

MANCHESTER 238 - up from 235 but 100 less than Wigan??!! Total cases 36, 628. Weekly 1694. Pop score up 43 to 6625. Much smaller rise in Pop as Manchester has far bigger population than Wigan. Hence more expected cases. Not today!
Weekly Pop up 21 to 306.

STOCKPORT 229 - Up from 150, Nearly beat Manchester! Total cases 13, 124. Weekly 1034. Stockport over 1000 in a week spells big problems here. Pop score up 78 to 4473. Biggest rise here in many weeks. One of highest ever. Weekly Pop up a giant 50 to 353. Risen 201 from 152 in just 12 days.

BOLTON 207 - up big from 100. Worrying here too as Bolton has been doing very well. Total cases 17, 574. Weekly 783. Pop score up 72 to 6112. Weekly Pop up 44 to 273.

TRAFFORD 191 - up hugely from 81. Highest score here yet, Total cases 10, 932. Weekly 88. Pop score up 81 to 4606. Highest ever rise here. No coincidence. Surely Christmas shopping super spreading? Despite Stockport's bad day its only rival (for now!) for best overall Pop Score did even worse and fell 3 further behind in the race to 133. Weekly Pop up 54 to 373. Once best in GM now the worst. That here and Stockport have done that in past month should be invesrigated to try to find out why.

OLDHAM 112 - up from 108. Total cases 17, 113. Weekly 687. Pop score up 47 to 7217. Not going to bother posting gap to Blackburn any longer as they are away with the fairies in the 8000 club already. Weekly Pop up 35 to 299.

ROCHDALE 106 - up from 73. Total cases 15, 115. Weekly 683. Just 4 cases separating threse two once bad boroughs turned good. Pop score up 48 to 6796. Weekly Pop up 30 to 307.

TAMESIDE 91 - down from 97. Total cases 12, 153. Weekly 619. Pop score up 40 to 5366. Weekly Pop up 11 to 274. Still low4est weekly but battle developing here with Oldham and Rochdale.

BURY 86 - up from 53, Total cases 11, 981. Weekly 654. Pop score up 45 to 6273. Weekly Pop up 4 to 342.

SALFORD 67 - down from 114. Another low number here. Students all working from home may help. Total cases 15, 753.Weekly 736. Pop score up 26 to 6086. Easily the lowest in GM today. Weekly Pop still up 9 to 284. Cases were lower a week ago is why Looks like nio GM borough will be under 300 within days unless things change and some will be in the 400s by then too

GM is back more or less where they were 2 months ago when coming down from the Autumn wave. But this time going UP.

75% people in the country are already living under measures that have no difference to the economy than a full lockdown, including the biggest economies in the whole of the country.

A national lockdown has a better impact, we know, people take it more seriously, it’s proven to work to a greater degree than staggered tiers.
As so many of us have been saying like forever. But since when does proven need to curb the virus have much to do with what measures are actually introduced. Seemingly rarely. As opposed to what is the least we can get away with doing that might look like we acted and shifted things down a bit so we can say it worked.

Both daily admissions and total numbers in hospital are close to or beyond the April peak.

At that point we were already locked down for a fortnight.
