The only story here is that a private company took the cash and failed to deliver on its obligations. What a surprise.

Back in December, when Trump announced his ‘America First’ executive order relating to vaccines, Jesse Goodman (Former FDA official) warned about Trumps idea of using the defence production act to prevent supplies being exported as other counties would then simply follow suit. It was clearly a PR move and carried no weight. I doubt the EU will make a move to do so as everyone loses out eventually. They’ll grumble like the rest of us and that’ll be it.

What do you think the UK needs to do differently to ‘co-operate’?

I don't claim to know what's going on here.

The only thing I do know is that leak to the German press is reprehensible, and we need to agree with the EU a way forward acceptable to everyone.

Otherwise we're all screwed.

An attitude which will get us nowhere. Even, perhaps especially, if it's true.

Why don't we just give them all our vaccine, and resume our vaccination program when every German has been given both doses?

After all it's much more important we get along with everyone than get the vaccines we bought and use them to immunise ourselves.

You keep talking about "us" fighting, when the UK has done nothing and will do nothing. We are going to get our vaccine before them because we ordered first, we funded the development and we approved it first. All of those were huge risks, and there is a payoff. It's an agreement between the UK and a private company.

Germany has acted in bad faith from the beginning, or have you already forgotten their side deal with Pfizer that directly contradicted the EU joint agreement for procurement that prohibited such side deals?

In an ideal world I hope everyone gets along over the vaccine, but unfortunately one country is acting in bad faith and no one is going to let British people die by giving vaccines already bought by this country go to the EU to appease Germany.
Which all begs the question, if we aren't fighting Germany, then why do we need to criticise them? How do their actions impact on us?

Well we have our own vaccine and produce it here don’t we?

I would hazard a guess that the EU also feel they've been promised it. But like I said, I don't know the ins and outs of it all.
Well they have absolutely no right to think that they should bully their way to the front of the queue after spending months at the back of the room holding on to their wallet.
The UK/US have funded development and they have paid for their vaccines up front. The EU haven’t. It does seem quite straightforward.
