I'm talking the time for two's, not just working people get that, it's free.
Of course people have to make a living, i wasn't judging & apologies if it seemed i was.
I understand some have to use childcare, i was never a fan of others raising my children so we worked opposite days/shifts but i do understand some people don't have that option and have to use other means to care for their children.
I just don't see why nurseries are open but not schools, makes no sense to me

Even if it is still debateable how much it might compromise a vaccine or if the vaccine can be modified afterwards anyway it would be idiotic not to do everything possible to keep it out given that we have one of our own on a spree everywhere already.

Not that I do not trust our government to do sensible things like that which any sane nation would do. Just checking.

England 54, 940 v 412, 418 = 13.3% positive

Sounds right - Telegraph yesterday said:

500k AZ ready to use today
500k AZ (approx) arriving by tomorrow.
3 million AZ filled and awaiting checks
15 million AZ ready to be put in vials - only days, say AZ

Also 500k Pfizer ready to use has been reported.

Unlikely - RNA is not very stable and needs to get to blood cells as quickly as possible
The mouth is fairly alkaline, and saliva would likely destroy it (IMO)
 
With this cold snap colliding with the Beast from the Far East, how long before we get the news of energy supplies not being able to keep up with the stay at home demand?

I think most school based local authority nurseries are shut. I work in early years and private nurseries and childminders are open. Many are asking parents who are not working at all (hairdressers, driving instructors etc) to keep children at home. But if a child receives funding (either the 2,3 or 4 year old funding) the setting will have to pay that money back if the child doesn’t attend. My daughter and son in law aren’t key workers , but are expected to put in 8 hours each at home. They were so relieved my 1 year old granddaughters nursery was open today. They wouldn’t have coped otherwise.
As to why early years is open, it’s partly cos there’s no union kicking up a fuss. And infection rates are very low.

In response to a new variant of COVID-19 in South Africa, from 9am on 24 December direct flights from South Africa have been suspended. Visitors arriving into the UK who have been in or transited through South Africa in the previous 10 days will not be permitted entry. British and Irish citizens, and third country nationals with residence rights in the UK, will still be able to enter via indirect routes from South Africa. You will be required to complete a passenger locator form and must self-isolate for ten days after your arrival, along with your household. If you only hold a visit visa for travel to the UK, you will not be able to enter if you have been in South Africa in the past 10 days.

From 1 January onwards those with residence rights includes: holders of Indefinite Leave to Remain; holders of existing leave to enter or remain (i.e those with biometric Residence permits) or an entry clearance/visa that grants such leave e.g. students, workers, etc (excluding visit visas); holders of EU Settlement Scheme (“EUSS”) leave; those who have rights of entry under the Withdrawal Agreements (including returning residents with a right of residence under the EEA Regulations and EEA frontier workers); family members of EEA nationals with rights under the Withdrawal Agreement.

In response to the new variant, some third countries, including major transit destinations, have also cancelled flights to and from South Africa. If you have a ticket to South Africa booked, you should check with your airline before travelling.

Strict health protocols are in place for international travellers to South Africa. You will need to show a paper copy of a negative PCR (polymerase chain reaction) COVID-19 test to border officials upon arrival in South Africa. The test must have taken place no more than 72 hours before your departure. It should be conducted by a certified medical practitioner, and should have the name and signature of the practitioner who conducted the test. You should carry several paper copies of your test, as you may need to present it more than once during your journey. If you do not present proof of a test upon arrival, you may be required to enter a government quarantine facility at your own cost. You will need to complete and produce an online travel health questionnaire on your personal device before arriving in South Africa. The questionnaire is available from the South Africa Department of Health See Entry requirements.
