Two small thoughts for you.
1 We are ALL vulnerable, just some more at risk than others. So, if you are young and healthy, obey the rules and stay that way.
2. Don't set too much store by the R number. It is a guesstimate from a committee. The trend in the number of actual cases is a better guide as to the state of play.

Some really encouraging medical breakthroughs are happening recently.

To quickly summarise the above article,
In a randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled, multi-center study, colchicine (well known NSAID) reduced:

a) hospitalizations by 25%
b) mechanical ventilation by 50%
c) deaths by 44%.

I truly believe with the vaccines, all the new medical treatment that are on offer and people in general being more careful by the summer we will be back to a semi normal state.

I’ve heard the Johnson and Johnson vaccine is due to be approved within the next few weeks, this is a one dose vaccine so we will be cooking on gas before long and within the month we will be getting lots of good news!
Blessed are those with positive news. Thanks mate. Makes my £2 a pint takeout from Fuggle Bunny even sweeter.

There are going to be several tough decisions to be taken on who gets the more limited stocks coming weeks.

Many competing claims are coming for it already. And deciding how we allocate to save most lives is an unenviable lottery,

I have resigned myself to not seeing a letter from 'Matt' until March at the earliest now.

Quite sure the authorities will have long known about supply issues. Fully expect the UK government to hit or at least be close to its mid-Feb target. Thereafter, however, I suspect that supplies may dwindle to the point that far fewer first injections will be given, and then after the hiatus, when stocks finally start arriving again, the majority of those will have to go to people awaiting their second injection. Perhaps Matt will send you an Easter card...

Scotland data

76 deaths - it was 78 last week

1307 cases - it was 1753 last week

At 9.3% positive v 8.4 % last week

2085 patients - up 32 in day

159 ventilated - down 2

It’s concerning. The vaccines own manufacturer (Pfizer) have gone against a 12 week gap and no one seems to have an answer as to what happens if the 12 week gap runs out. The BMA is saying it’s difficult to justify and now we can add DAUK to the list.

If I were running such a company, I'd certainly distance myself from anyone using my product differently. Doesn't mean the U.K.'s decision is wrong.

As I mentioned elsewhere, I think the U.K. will have to keep enough stock back to cover those given their first vaccination in early January and who are due their second in early March, say. Just pray that stocks start arriving again soon after.

Scotland Vaccination update:

Total first doses 380, 667

22, 213 yesterday - third successive fall in numbers daily from 25,000

499 second doses also given. Total 5188. This is double recent days when it was under 200 a day.

England hospital deaths 710 - with just 70 from NW.

It was 771 and 78 last Saturday - so this is positive news. Though still terribly high.

Not weekend data as this is from Friday, of course.

Tomorrow and Monday are the two usually lowest numbers in the week.

Many condolences. It’s shocking the number who are catching it in hospital.
the hospitals are aware of it to,i smashed my ankle up 4 weeks ago, operation at 8am with pins and screws each side and home at 4pm in a cast, they couldnt get me out fast enough, the porter pushing me about was saying the hospital in all wards is crawling with it

You can buy them privately , google it but why waste your money
I registered for one through my work but I’ve had no follow up for 2 months now.

I’m just genuinely interested, being young and reasonably healthy and stuck in a classroom with groups of children in one form or another if I’ve picked it up asymptotically.
