I see Heathrow is copping some stick on Twitter this morning.
If ever you were going to make sure you had every member of staff on duty and were getting people through customs as quickly as possible, surely you'd do it when you knew a plane load of journalists who'd been in Washington covering the US election was landing!

Could that not be due to Customs rather than the airport?

Pfizer’s problems were documented, but talk in the EU now that AstraZeneca can only supply 40% of its orders in the first quarter, and it hasn’t even been approved. Reckon there are going to be problems in Feb/Mar for everyone, including the U.K., until the taps are turned back on in the second quarter. Just hope that everyone getting the first shot can actually get the second.
It’s concerning. The vaccines own manufacturer (Pfizer) have gone against a 12 week gap and no one seems to have an answer as to what happens if the 12 week gap runs out. The BMA is saying it’s difficult to justify and now we can add DAUK to the list.

just completely lost it in a supermarket type shop, not the widest of gaps between the aisle and we would normally go at around 7pm but we were waiting for our cheques to clear ;) so went just now.

thankfully not busy walked up the first aisle no problem, turn to go down the second and two couples no masks standing by each freeze with no gap for me to get through, as they happily chat away to each other. So i wait and wait and wait and wait and wait, by now i can feel my temper building. One of the blokes see's me and say's 'sorry mate'. I am now at boiling point ' no worries mate you carry on chatting who gives a shit about a pandemic anyway'. It than kicks of abit into a slanging match me against 4 lol. I was getting ready for it to turn nasty with punches being thrown i really was seeing red.

Anyway they move on and i stay behind them doing my shopping, i an getting sick and tired of so many knobheads around here just not following guidelines. I know i was in the wrong for kicking off but its been nearly year of people behaving like knobheads. Why were they allowed in without masks ? all 4 couldnt be asthmatic. But why complete block the aisle, without a thought for anyone as long as they can have a chat
and breath and calm downnnnnnnnnnn !!!
I have a chronic lung, ENT and heart condition, I always wear a mask, woman walked into supermarket in front of me and when challenged by security said she was exempt, I asked him why he did not ask for proof, he replied he was not allowed. I'm glad to say in the local Costco if you don't wear a mask, you don't get in, exempt or not.

My dear old Uncle Reggie died from covid this morning, had the vaccine last week but he caught it whilst in hospital.
I thought i understood about covid but i think it's only when you lose someone you love that you truly understand the impact on so many families.
He was 96 , had had a good innings & was just the nicest man i've ever known, he was the guy making everyone laugh at family get togethers & as kids we all idolised him.
Can't even go to his funeral back in Cardiff.
R.I.P Reggie, i shall miss you & thank you for the time we spent together , learning how to fish & scrump apples after my sperm donor father walked out.

Many condolences. It’s shocking the number who are catching it in hospital.

Yes, it is only right we compare the UK to other countries that show Tory govt in a positive light. We should not compare with the Asian countries who have higher levels oglf poverty, comparable population density etc.. Oh, leave poor Boris alone. He's tried.

Anyway, probably the wrong thread for this so I won't say any more. :)

watch this one of the best speeches in parliament on the lockdown and who it really impacts

Absolutely brilliant speech, sincere, coming from the heart! The majority of people agree with this regardless of their politics. Politics seems to infiltrate this thread all the time whereas what I think we should have is a party of national unity. There would still be people carping, it’s human nature.

Two small thoughts for you.
1 We are ALL vulnerable, just some more at risk than others. So, if you are young and healthy, obey the rules and stay that way.
2. Don't set too much store by the R number. It is a guesstimate from a committee. The trend in the number of actual cases is a better guide as to the state of play.

Some really encouraging medical breakthroughs are happening recently.

To quickly summarise the above article,
In a randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled, multi-center study, colchicine (well known NSAID) reduced:

a) hospitalizations by 25%
b) mechanical ventilation by 50%
c) deaths by 44%.

I truly believe with the vaccines, all the new medical treatment that are on offer and people in general being more careful by the summer we will be back to a semi normal state.

I’ve heard the Johnson and Johnson vaccine is due to be approved within the next few weeks, this is a one dose vaccine so we will be cooking on gas before long and within the month we will be getting lots of good news!
Blessed are those with positive news. Thanks mate. Makes my £2 a pint takeout from Fuggle Bunny even sweeter.

There are going to be several tough decisions to be taken on who gets the more limited stocks coming weeks.

Many competing claims are coming for it already. And deciding how we allocate to save most lives is an unenviable lottery,

I have resigned myself to not seeing a letter from 'Matt' until March at the earliest now.

Quite sure the authorities will have long known about supply issues. Fully expect the UK government to hit or at least be close to its mid-Feb target. Thereafter, however, I suspect that supplies may dwindle to the point that far fewer first injections will be given, and then after the hiatus, when stocks finally start arriving again, the majority of those will have to go to people awaiting their second injection. Perhaps Matt will send you an Easter card...

Scotland data

76 deaths - it was 78 last week

1307 cases - it was 1753 last week

At 9.3% positive v 8.4 % last week

2085 patients - up 32 in day

159 ventilated - down 2

If I were running such a company, I'd certainly distance myself from anyone using my product differently. Doesn't mean the U.K.'s decision is wrong.

As I mentioned elsewhere, I think the U.K. will have to keep enough stock back to cover those given their first vaccination in early January and who are due their second in early March, say. Just pray that stocks start arriving again soon after.

Scotland Vaccination update:

Total first doses 380, 667

22, 213 yesterday - third successive fall in numbers daily from 25,000

499 second doses also given. Total 5188. This is double recent days when it was under 200 a day.

England hospital deaths 710 - with just 70 from NW.

It was 771 and 78 last Saturday - so this is positive news. Though still terribly high.

Not weekend data as this is from Friday, of course.

Tomorrow and Monday are the two usually lowest numbers in the week.

the hospitals are aware of it to,i smashed my ankle up 4 weeks ago, operation at 8am with pins and screws each side and home at 4pm in a cast, they couldnt get me out fast enough, the porter pushing me about was saying the hospital in all wards is crawling with it

You can buy them privately , google it but why waste your money
I registered for one through my work but I’ve had no follow up for 2 months now.

I’m just genuinely interested, being young and reasonably healthy and stuck in a classroom with groups of children in one form or another if I’ve picked it up asymptotically.
