True but New Zealand is not an international travel hub, nor does it have 700+ forreign truck drivers entering the country every day. The virus would gave got in and population density + Vitamin D deficiency mean we're in the shit.
Closeng the borders wouldn't have helped much due to truckers and only a quarantine app linked to monitoring the location of an individual would have helped. No British political party was prepared to restrict the human rights of individuals to prevent the spread. Labour has only been keen on closing borders for a month.
It does my fucking nut in when people compare us to New Zealand, it’s such a ridiculous comparison bar being an island.

They're probably being told to report that angle by the UK government.

I'd try a different website but the issue is that putting together a good news website is clearly very difficult. The only free one that comes close from what I've seen is the The Guardian website but that isn't exactly balanced either.

I'd love to have an alternative to the BBC website but there's nothing really decent out there?
I read the guardian and sometimes the independent websites. As an old fart i was brought up on BBC news, so it has been the go to website for me, but the last few years I have found them not to be very balanced in a number of areas and I think this has continued with covid. I understand why they might want to post the negative stuff to help the government and scare people into adhering to the guidance. But imo the lack of balance is very poor and possibly extremely damaging for many. Im actually pleased my kids hardly listen to BBC news for this very reason. Sky are not much better either.

No doubt we could have done much better in dealing with covid and we should still be much tighter on our border controls. But I think it would be nigh on impossible to have behaved like NZ have. People who think it possible show a lack of understanding of economics and human aswell as physical geography.

Sorry buts that just not true of the centres I've worked at, very little goes to waste.

The reason they have reserve lists is to ensure the utilise the staff and volunteers time to its maximum.
Its definitely happening up & down the country
People last minute are being contacted to come & have the vaccine that same day, now that to me suggests lots cant get there, people just aint wanting it or these people are not bothering
Not saying last minute .com is wrong by the way it should be given to someone rather than slinging it down the drain
It may not be at the centres you work in but go look on Internet & you will see this happening

Nottingham for 1 example they gave police officers the chance to have the vaccine on a day of huge no shows costing ££££££ if thrown away

There needs to be better contact from the individual & hospital or surgery so we get these numbers up
Please don't think for 1 minute I'm calling out the surgery's or vaccine centres they are doing a wonderfull job as the figures show but imo we are seeing loads going to waste although a very small percentage overall

I watched an interview on Andrew Marrs this morning with a lady who worked on the Oxford Zenica vaccine. It was very reassuring. She said the vaccine should reduce the seriousness of the effect from the South African and Brazilian strains and hey are confident it can be tweaked for any future strains too.

all scientists I have seen have said the same and yet there is a determination to scare people half to death.

Didn’t Worsley get you the ticket and persuade you to go to Wembley where you caught it,, sorry, if wrong, sorry too karen if being a bit too lighthearted about a serious illness I know you still suffer effects from.

People are responsible for their own actions

My theory it's to try and keep people complying the problem is though is that the ones that do what the fuck they want don't pay attention to the media just nutjobs on FB & Twitter. All it really does is scare the old folk and stress people whoa re mentally suffering.

Certain sections of the media are a disgrace, they are the modern equivalent of Lord Haw Haw in war times.

It's early days and for once I agree it's right to show some caution now we are making inroads to get things under control. At some point though we have to get our lives back. Living carries a risk and I'm not going to spend the rest of my life in my house 24/7 save the odd walk around the block or a trip to the shops. Humans need stimulation, human connection and pleasure.

Over 60s and those under with any underlying conditions are due their first jag end on this month early March, by Easter we should be well into all over 50s with most over 70s having had their second. I would expect with those under 50 with other conditions already being done, the numbers requiring hospital should be very small by April/ mid April.
I know there are some refusing to have the vaccine and might need persuasion but I fear Boris is risking our economy if he is resorting to offering a jag to all now when you get vaccinated.

No wonder all those celebs and aging movie stars were quick off the mark to post pictures of themselves being vaccinated and there is a web site just to show you which have already had it.

Not seen any of them in their jag yet. Maybe it is like PPE - coming soon.

(PS - before the arguments start - this is, obviously, NOT being serious and I know it was just a mistype).

Yes I agree the government are clearly using the variant issue to keep people behaving and using the media to shape behaviour. If not everyone would be dmanading pubs and shops opening even more than they are and there would be civil unrest.

Thought I’d be running next week given my recuperation over the past week but no chance.
I can feel the blighter sat heavy in my lungs.

Cleaned my flat head to toe yesterday & was absolutely wiped afterwards, all night in fact.
Was my birthday weekend and managed a glass of wine and that was it.
Perhaps work was quite heavy (it’s computer based but the brain ears energy & there’s quite a few meetings).

The head of my dept had it bad back in October and although he was running within a month he told me it’s still mentally affecting him.

I feel it more when it gets cold....like everyone.
Made me think about the future quite a bit too. When I eventually rebuild fully & get myself a place of my own I’ll be researching ‘advanced insulation processes’.
This flat is so inefficient in that regard (it’s damp, the sills drenched in water & the wall heaters are like breathing in dust).
I’d imagine this hasn’t helped my chest.

we were promised mass graves.
so where are they?
very disappointed in the death rate.
i expected better from the common cold.
No we weren't. The NHS failed to collapse.
Good job too or anyone without access to oxygen or an oxygen CPAP machine would have died. The prediction was that 500k would have died if the virus had let rip.
In fact, it would gave been worse than 1918-19 flu epidemic without modern medicine. But yeah, you keep being a Covidiot.
