Chris Witty this morning reiterating we are not safe yet and opening yet again too early will be another victory for fed up over facts. I truly despair of people who cannot learn from previous mistakes. They keep me away from my family and friends by being thick fucking morons. You are right about this being a world situation. If we don't vaccinate the poorer countries new variants will keep appearing. So even the don't send money to poor countries racist cunts, should see it as an insurance policy to keep them safe. Although they are so thick they probably won't realise that.
An upswing is cases is virtually inevitable at whatever point we open up.
The whole point of the lockdown was to protect those most vulnerable to this disease until vaccines had been sufficiently administered. We have now reached that point, with all over 70s and clinically vulnerable having been vaccinated in mid-Feb.

looking at the dates looks like they want group 1-4 to have had both jabs by the time things seriously open up

The whole point of the lockdown was to protect the NHS from being overwhelmed.

Does anyone know the timescale for all over 50s to have recieved both jabs..surely then we could be back to normal (new)?

England hospital deaths 164 on what is one of the three 'high midweek days when weekend deaths get added.

35 from NW though. Always has more weekend add ons.

Last week it was 279 - with 57 from the NW - so another big week to week fall.

Indeed 279 on this day last week was the highest of the past week.

So if 164 proves that this week it will be strong progress.

Dependent on the much vaunted daily ramp up it's possible all over 50's could be done by the end of June which would mean all over 50's having their first jab by April 7 so means second jab 12 weeks away would be the last day of June.

Have we? Let's hope so. I admire your optimism, although to be honest, if the CMO says it's too soon, I will go with him. The simple reason I don't share your optimism is the propensity of new variants developing in those not yet vaccinated, which theoretically could undo current vaccine protection capabilities. A rise in infection rates is and will be a direct consequence of this latest run into normality. The weak and old may not be ok if an even more virulent strain emerges. Stopping the incubation and mutation of these variants will only happen when all people are immunised. That's just science. So we open up too soon and we present the virus with countless Petri dishes to change and adapt. That's why Witty spike out. He knows political expediency will prevail and wants it on record that he told them. Who to believe? A scientist whose whole life is dedicated to this, or the Tory Party and their plant Starmer? Difficult one. I hope you are right, because I too am fed up, but I counter that feeling with knowing the virus doesn't give a single fuck how I feel.

Scotland vaccinations:

1, 789, 377 first doses given - 14, 718 today - was 14, 909 yesterday & 22, 783 last week

123, 686 second doses given - 4954 today - was 2802 yesterday & 5580 last week

Good to know cheers

I really do wish Whitty and Vallance would be a bit more upbeat and positive. They are only doing their job but Christ it's as if them and SAGE dont want this to end.

Surely now that 23 million have been jabbed they should start being more positive and confident?
I dont get it, the vaccinations were meant to be the passports to freedom. The unlock is far too slow, crazy that we have to wait another 3 months.

Northern Ireland data:

2 deaths - was 2 last week

240 cases - was 149 last week

13.3% positivity - was 8.4% last week

7 day cases score 1269 - was 1224 yesterday - and 1440 last week

18 Care Home outbreaks - same as yesterday - was 25 last week

222 patients - UP 2 on yesterday - was 289 last week

22 ventilated - down 3 on yesterday - was 30 last week

One or two slightly concerning things occurring here - mostly just slowing down not going up - but this may be signs of school returning?

164 England hospital deaths by region:

37 NE & Yorkshire, 35 North West, 29 Midlands, 20 East, 15 South West. 15 London, 13 South East

Leeds with 8 is the most in one trust and in the North West 4 each in Liverpool, Southport and Tameside.

164 England hospital deaths by age:

0 - 19 (1) 0.6%

20 - 39 (2) 1.2%

40 - 59 (21) 12.8%

60 - 79 (68) 41.5%

80 PLUS (72) 43.9%

Another high number under 60 and the two older ranges close together well under 50%

Scotland update:

19 deaths - was 33 last week

466 cases - was 542 last week

3,3% positive - was 4.4% last week

614 patients - down 40 on yesterday - was 784 last week

50 ventilated icu - down 9 on yesterday - was 71 last week

Another good set of data here.

25 infections in people aged 65+
Inclusive of 5 in people 85+

90 in kids 0-14
61 in 15-24 age group

We know that the vaccines are effected against the most recent 'new variants'. You may also be aware that the creator of the Pfizer vaccine said that the virus was need to mutate many, many more times to render the vaccine ineffective, and that the current vaccines will be adapted very quickly to deal with them (a matter of weeks).

Total cases for the three nations sub 1000 again at 872

wk to wk: 1815 v 1448 v 1389 v 1197 v 861 v 872

Very slow fall to a stall

Will we see an increase in cases now that schools are back?
