Cases still going up but the rate at which they're rising has slowed in the past week.

Better weather, school holidays, and vaccines all hopefully behind this.

what he said about the vaccine roll out speed was accurate tho. A lot of European countries are now jabbing faster than us.... but due to there delays at the start they are sill behind us in totals.

Bury 7071 - down from 7778

Manchester 6326 - down from 6717

Oldham 2926 - up considerably from 738

Rochdale 19352, down a bit but also unclassified

Salford 17, 205 - up from 16, 681 - still climbing here but unclassified

Stockport 7255 - big jump up in recent days - STOCKPORT NOW ABOVE BURY AND MANCHESTER. This is the highest it has been in a while here. Not yet obvious in real case data. So we will see.

Tameside 3676 - down from 4046

Trafford 4316 - up a little from 3970

Wigan 2382 - up slightly from 2204


Cheshire East up to 4440

Ribble Valley is the highest normal number in NW now up to 9275



Liverpool also rising fast now on 3710.


Pretty much all of North Wales now in watch zones - Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire, Wrexham.

Conwy (Llandudno etc) the worst on 3618.


Much of Yorkshire - in fact literally from Huddersfield to the coast between Bridlington and Hull is ALL now on watch, Recent big uptick here. Kirklees falls to 6260 but Leeds rises to 5078.


Newcastle up big too in the North East on 8707.


Wolverhapton on 7955 is worst in Midlands but plenty of places there not far behind


Much the same is true in and around London. Cases are spreading there widely now.

Kensington and Chelsea the highest - on 7244.


Further south Southampton on 6668 is rising too.



And in Scotland it is pretty much just the northern islands and highlands NOT on watch.

Edinburgh on 8281 is the highest but the whole country is a sea of red and much of the central belt not much below Edinburgh.


This is very much no longer a NW focused outbreak. It has in the past week spread to almost everywhere.

Hence, unfortunately, the inevitability of today's unwelcome decision.

Wales announces it is the first UK Nation to reach its target of all adults having been offered the first jab.

Six weeks ahead of the late July schedule set by UK govermment.

70.3% of the population have had at least 1 dose.

They expect to have reached their target of 75% takeup of those aged 18 to 39 being vaccinated by end of June.

Wales is also the best in the world on population percentage they say.

They are behind many countries - including England and Scotland - on the numbers who have had BOTH doses.

Wales stands at 43.9% on that measure.

For comparison -

Stockport - best in GM - stands at 77,6% first doses and 56.4% both.

Whereas Manchester - worst in GM - is at 54.6% first doses and 32.1% both,

This is how myths start. Check the caveats, one of which was that restrictions would remain in place, "if there is a variant of concern".

There wouldn't need to be a delay had incompetent Johnson locked down the borders and not allowed 20,000 Indians into the UK.

No quarantine plus infected people = increased transmission which is what has happened. The selfishness of many in the past 15 months has been quite astounding. Even now when we are so close to ending all restrictions and after a year people still can't manage to wear a mask properly or even at all.

There have been so many selfless heroes during the pandemic but this insidious side of modern society is one I'll never forget.

Where I work is a big building with hundreds of people in, I would estimate the mask compliance is around 10% despite clear signage and guidance.

I have just been told that I can get my 2nd shot and that I can choose between pfizer and A.Z after receiving the A.Z first time around. Am I better off getting the pfizer and mixing them?

I don't think you get a choice. They were asking for volunteers a few weeks back (from those who had only had one jab) for a 'mix and match' trial but that was the exception rather than the rule. In general you get two doses of the same vaccination, whatever it was.

Same here. 16 at Mums funeral in April and none allowed to stand outside. No carrying the coffin or touching the coffin. Had a half hour slot to allow for cleaning. It was the most impersonal funeral I've ever been at. Meanwhile people had been going to India for funerals and visiting sick relatives.

I am not so sure if that about less testing in Germany is real as the schools test twice a week, you still need to have tests to visit inside restaurant, hotels and in a lot areas for shopping. I do not know if the fast testing centers we have in front of a lot of shopping areas etc. are part of the counting as I think that this is difficult to do or if just "real PCR tests" are counted.

The numbers really go down here in Germany. When I look at my region we went from more than 200 cases per 7 days about 2 months ago to 7 cases this week. And with that the conditions change - but it is not back to normal now as there is still restrictions with numbers who can visit shops at the same time, mask wearing is still required in shops, schools, busses etc., restrictions for meeting people or numbers of people at events etc.

Wearing masks means a FFP2-mask not normal cloth masks.

Beware. It took 4 weeks for the Indian varaint to go from <100 cases as variant of interest to become the dominant strain in the UK. Testing and genomics is important.

Interesting - obviously different over there. I've no idea what data there is on mixing vaccines but I'd be tempted to stick with the same one as there is probably more data on the effectiveness of that.
