North American borders to remain closed through July; delta variant poised to surge among American unvaccinated says USA today. Could get messy out there. That's America not going on the green list..

100%. Since booting the obese Oompa Lumpa out of office they seem to be cracking on with a degree of sanity. I can't wait to have my second jab first week in August.

I'll carry on wearing a mask in Morrisons etc as long as it's "mandatory" but only because I can't be arsed getting into aggro with the staff, they have enough shit to deal with. I'm not convinced the washable cloth ones do anything whatsoever.

True enough. I think there's little sense in some of the regs now. I still try to respect them but we're coming out of the arse end of this now and while some people have ridden roughshod over the guidelines throughout, plenty more have done their best and even they're starting to waver

If they really are singling out M registrations then yes. If they are using the registration to locate where the owner comes from less so. There will be plenty of owners living in Scotland with the initials MS for example who may have chosen to pay to register their car that way. MR and MS are never issued normally because of that. Nor is MO or MY

The police obviously know all this as the system exists in the first place to identify owners not vehicles as such.

So the media,who are less likely to know, just assume the simplicity of M means Manchester.

You'd think the police would have better things to do than siting on their arse by the side of the road looking for number plates.

I dunno, like catching criminals maybe.

100% back at you, and good luck on getting second jab hopefully earlier than expected. Of course I wouldn’t dream of not putting a mask on in a supermarket or petrol station or whatever, just not when it’s pointless - again was out for a meal the other evening, sat 10 meters from the exit, and once I’ve paid my bill expected to put on a mask to walk out of the establishment. Utter nonsense.

SAGE are risk assessors. They have to evaluate risks based on profiling. It isn’t an exact science, so members will have differing views.

Being told definitive things by politicians doesn’t make what they say gospel whilst there are risks in play. They are trying to appease the public whilst scientists evaluate the risks in the background.

This particular SAGE member may be wide of the mark in suggesting more lockdowns are necessary. It doesn’t make them a scaremonger or attention seeker. It makes them a concerned scientist who’s own individual take on the data leads them to believe we aren’t out of the woods yet. If proven to be right, they could save thousands of lives.

If their view isn’t shared with the rest of the SAGE group, that opinion is worthless in the grand scheme of things.

We are living in unchartered times. We’ve never been through a pandemic before when having all this data.

It looks as though vaccines are leading us towards the end of it, but the data is still being processed to tell us when it will be officially over.

I get that mate but I don't think they help the situation (I realise I don't have to watch, listen, read etc to them) but it seems to me that some of them are enjoying the spotlight & their own publicity far too much and don't want to go back to their labs with test tubes.

It's easy for them to say on massive salaries - oh give it another few weeks or have suggest another lockdown down further the line.
They are not in the real world and don't appreciate the hardship this is still causing.
It's time to start fucking this lot off and also the press need to stop publishing daily figures and Coronavirus is no longer the leading cause of death in this country and hasn't been for several weeks.

Many of them wont be research scientists. The only way we exit this will be through science so I wouldn't write off the whole community on the basis of a handful of spokespeople

I'm not bothered about foreign travel myself, done a lot pre-pandemic, but I've a group of US mates in Minneapolis and Chicago who are desperate to get over this Autumn to go pubbing again.

They reckon our pubs, in Manchester and Leek and Lewes etc are the best thing about the UK and of course they're right; not just the beer but the all-ages atmosphere you don't get in the States.

1,9% Positivity- was 1/.3% last week

Drakeford confirms Wales is at the start of a third wave having doubled in the week and the three most infected regions are all in North Wales holiday areas with Conwy, highest followed by Denbighshire and Flintshire. So not hard to guess where the spread came from.

Is it the person making the quotes fault or the media companies contacting them for quotes fault?

simple fact is its advisory group, by there very nature there will be a wide varied view of things and how to handle them. some will be ultra cautious, some will be ultra pesimistic. which is why you get the mixed signals when talking to 1 expert then another.

The media tho will use what gets the cash through the door.
