I'm not bothered about foreign travel myself, done a lot pre-pandemic, but I've a group of US mates in Minneapolis and Chicago who are desperate to get over this Autumn to go pubbing again.

They reckon our pubs, in Manchester and Leek and Lewes etc are the best thing about the UK and of course they're right; not just the beer but the all-ages atmosphere you don't get in the States.
Lots of families not seen each other also..when will it bloody end!

Zoe App data today is not good sadly

Big rise in last 24 hours. Highest in past week

Predicted cases up 1109 - 3 times what it was in last few days. - to 18, 502

Ongoing symptiomatic cases up 10, 340 - also biggest in some days - to 229, 891

In Greater Manchester - Oldham on 13, 841 is ahead of Manchester which has fallen to 10, 718.

Tameside on 8912 Trafford 8500 and Bury 6722 and Wigan on 4504 are the other high scorers

Stockport dropped to 3693 but not out of the woods.

EVeryone else sub 2000 - including Bolton on 1918.

Liverpool is now one of the highest in NW on 20, 128. But not being stopped from going to Scotland afaik.

Though Chorley is higher on 24. 194 and several surrounding areas are not far below. Such as Ribble valley on 13, 148 and much of the rural lake district is now ahead of many parts of GM.

Most of London and the South East is now a shade of pink so no point in talking about other parts of the UK.

This is everywhere and I think hope of a fall in time to open up two weks early look unlikely right now.

But you never know what the next week will bring. Given the amazing vaccination numbers this weekend.

Sturgeon talking about banning people from traveling here said 'she had a "duty" to keep Scotland as safe as possible'. So how does that sit with allowing 20k Scots to behave like drunken twats with no social distancing, masks etc? What a complete tosser that woman is. Full article here which is full of hypocrisy

they couldn’t police it.

The death rate with Covid is around the same as passive smoking now and nowhere near the average 450 deaths from heart disease every day.
Granted you ‘can’t’ catch heart disease but I dare say 50% of the deaths could be prevented by better lifestyle choices.
Maybe cancer and heart disease isn’t as ‘sexy’ as Covid

The right decision not to fully reopen today..this won't peak for a few week yet

I hope you are wrong but expect you may be right.

Though each % rise in vaccinations before a region really takes off with exponential rises seems to be making a dfference to slowing things a bit.

We are not at the peak of cases yet. I expect us to top 20,000 at some stage in next week or two. But every jab in the arm will help slow the rise and speed the fall down.

Come 4 weeks from now it might be different.

If only we had been more sensible on India and been able to slow the spread at a time when our vaccine supplies were at their lowest by misfortune then we would almost certainly be ahead of the wave rather than surfing furiously to keep from not falling off of it.

It's almost as if Sturgeon is a short sighted, single minded complete fuckwit and always has been.

Bit of perspective really...

WRT passive smoking, we have a smoking ban in public places.

But you can't prevent people over eating, or actually force them to take walks, go swimming, or adopt a healthy mindset, can you?

Well, yes.

Individuals banned from buying their own food. Banned from buying alcohol, or tobacco. Mandated doctors appointments. That really would be draconian - but really the best way forward.

We already do the same with mental health holds - people lose their entire liberty. Locked away, watched and controlled.

The handful of COVID measures really don't compare to that, do they?

Ask yourself, does it work that way because mental health is a sexy problem and heart disease isn't?

No - it's because the mental health patients can harm others. And so can people spreading COVID.

Let's hope so..agreed, the government messed up with India big time

BBC North West reporting supplies of vaccine to the North West have been CUT and will fall again.

13% of supplies sent to the region in May and now 10% this month. Expected to be in single figures next month.

I guess if we have it under control by then....but they surely have to see the link between low vaccination levels in Manchester and Salford and cases and the reverse in Stockport.

Trouble is with Merseyside cases now skyrocketting as I noted on the Zoe data report and is true in real life data too (Liverpool has shot up the league table in past 2 weeks) NW is likly to need more vaccinations just as other regions start to rise and need more too down south.

Did they give any indication of what the total UK supplies were for each month - was this a substantial cut in real terms or just in relative percentages?

Relative % and partly because - I suspect - we had more in May for the mass vaccinations in Bolton and other places that spiked first and that worked well.

But the BBC did not mention that - just the 13% May 10% June and lower still in July.

Which as there will by then be areas spiking all over the UK that might need rapid uptake is not entirely surprising.

But this is just my thoughts on why - the BBC played it as being a real cut with no explanation mooted.

Possibly time to reassess the option of AZ for younger age groups. It’s not offered currently based on a risk/benefit assessment a while back when it was determined that the risk outweighed the lesser benefit for younger groups.

As we have loads of AZ and the risks are now different they maybe it should be offered to all age groups?

Scotland data:

0 deaths - was 0 last week

1250 cases - was 761 last week

7.2% positivity - was 5.2% last week - worrying rise in this across the UK to those saying we are just doing more testing to create a rise. We are and it will and some of these positive cases will turn negative later. But the rise is real.

ALSO NOTE THERE WAS A DATA ISSUE IN GRAMPIAN OVER THE WEEKEND SO SOME OF TODAYS IS REALLY HOLDOVER I BELIEVE> THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN RESOLVED. BUT ALSO SERVER ISSUES IN LOTHIAN WHICH WILL BE ADDED TOMORROW. THAT MIGHT BE QUITE A NUMBER SADLY.

158 patients - that is up from 128 on Friday - a concerning increase of nearly 25% over the weekend but unsurprising given the high cases - pushing 4000 in 3 days. There were also 128 last Monday.

14 ventilated patients - was 12 on Friday and 17 last Monday.
