GM AND NW HIGHLIGHTS

An OK day for both though GM did not fare quite so well as yesterday and at best on par with rest of the region.

NW FALLS by 96 on day to 3855

And is DOWN 622 week to week from 4477

Out of these numbers GM FELL on the day by12 of that 96.

Well below par of around 33 though such small numbers mean little difference.

And week to week GM fell by 256 of that 622. This is a bit up on the split GM has been averaging so that balances out the day to day numbers and as week to week are bigger and always more important anyway it elevates this to another good day for GM

Three boroughs under 100 again today. Bury, Oldham and Rochdale. ALL down week to week.

Wigan on 180 second highest behind Manchester and up week to week by 11.

Manchester down the most week to week by 86 to 230.

Trafford also had another good day - though not as good as yesterday - and was down 12 week to week. It only took 4 points off Stockport's lowest Pop Score in GM cutting that lead to just 36/

But Stockport did OK too and was up just 2 day to day and down week to week by 57 - second most. So good weekly Pop Score fall here.

Only Bolton other than Wigan was up week to week. by just 6 on 131.

Nobody really had a bad day today.

THIS IS THE HIGHEST NUMBER IN THE NORTH WEST IN SOME WHILE.

Unfortunately the numbers to follow for today - not 2 days ago as the above - are not that good either.

The jump up in deaths in England over the past 3 days is matched by these hospital numbers for the same period. And the North West has not been the worst but has had a worse three days than of late.

I find the lack of regular updates on Covid alarming. Are Scotland still getting daily updates from Nicola Sturgeon.

As always, Dr Chris Smith at midnight on Radio 5 live is a great source of information on the state of Covid.
No Scotland no longer get daily updates. I feel, like you that there is a lack of hard clear facts from them about things we would be interested in knowing.

If you are double jabbed what are the statistical chances of you 1) being infected 2) being hospitalised 3) dying 4) infecting someone else
what are the plans for vaccine boosters
what are the plans for under 18 vaccine
what is the position if you refuse vaccine as it seems a good proportion of under 30s are
when will we get a sensible policy on international travel
what are contingency plans for vaccine avoiding variants
the list is quite large

Really, over 130,000 people dead and daily deaths regularly over 100 in the uk from this virus? When there are floods that cause property damage, injuries and possibly some deaths, the government are all over it. Yet here we are with over a hundred people dying every day and they have gone missing. I would also say that losing a relative or friend, especially if at a younger age, is awfully traumatic for those people who are left behind. It appears to me that this is a situation that is now considered as acceptable.

You asked what the government were doing now about covid and that it was a national disaster - talking in the present tense. I agree if we are looking to the past then it has been a shambles and I’m sure an enquiry will follow.

Please will people stop insinuating that to discuss where covid sits amongst mortality is lacking in compassion. Every death is sad and we have all lost friends and loved ones for a myriad of reasons. Unfortunately, death is part of life and vaccines do not make people immortal. Yes, we will have to accept that levels of deaths from covid will continue forever, just like heart disease, dementia, strokes etc. The quicker people accept that the easier it is to make peace with it.

Medical research will continue and I truly hope that clinical interventions and medicines are developed which render covid even less of a threat and save even more lives. In the meantime, covid will bubble away and may even surge every now and again but it is now part of our lives and when compared with other mortality factors is way down and that is what I mean by sense of proportionality.
