Looking at the numbers from the latest models ( a day or 2 ago ) they seem to be working on a 0.85% hospitalisation rate for omicron and a 0.1% IFR.

Original wave was a 10-15% hospitalisation rate.

True.

Since opening back up fully in the summer my life’s been pretty much the same as pre covid give or take the odd thing.
And nothing that was said tonight will have changed that. Boris stressed the one thing that is easy and free and will not impact our Christmas at all - indeed make it safer.

Crazy that is still being politicised by a few in here.

The boosters are our best weapon. Having any jab if you have had none is better than nothing. What is there to argue over for some?

Whilst it's been better I feel like it's been a pretty average year overall. Summer never really got going and it felt like a bit of a letdown after people were expecting the country to be in a "last days of Rome" style swing....

Realistically it won't be till next summer where this is behind us properly.

That is certainly a definition. The bit you’ve missed is that it’s open to challenge and dissent. Where most science almost always should exist is in the shades of grey we all should inhabit.
What we are currently doing is repeatedly predicting part of the future looking at the only evidence that suits the answer we already have. Why did Vallance and Whitty, (2 men I respect enormously, by the way), feel they needed to stand behind a graph that was not only out of date but wildly inaccurate? That sort of stuff is what leads people to not trust the independence of experts and allows conspiracy theorists to flourish. Having SAGE relying on ‘behavioural experts’ doesn’t lend itself to seeming independence either.
You're projecting. You know you've always had a strong view. You know you argued many times this wouldn't happen, that wouldn't happen. Or that didn't happen. And you've not always been right.

Me neither. But you are attacking a document that is just a piece of work, and you are not proving anything about the work, nothing at all. Just that you want to attack it, and that will get the better of you.

So anyone with kids thing its fine for the uk goverment to overule parents, and let say a 9 year old kid over there parent?, to have the say on the vaccine?

What am I attacking? I thought I was just generalising.

The only reason we might get into lockdown territory will be if people stop being sensible over coming weeks or millions think the vaccine boosters are unnecessary and not a vital weapon to stave off the worst.
My experience of public transport and in particular football fans (but including christmas shoppers) over the last 3 weeks is that nobody is even trying to sensible, they'll go get their boosters obviously, and still not care a jot, thinking they've done their bit.

Personal responsibility isn't difficult if you care, but most, in my view, aren't even trying.

I imagine it will also then be human nature to blame everyone else if restrictions are reimposed because of their own actions.

Glad I am not a politician. You get the blame not just for your own mistakes but everyone else's too.

Open another tab.

Multitask.
I did, hence still arguing about it.

It's quite simple. The longer I am in the queue, the more time I spend on the internet, the more stupid arguments I will get into. Is that my fault? Guess so. But No! Wait - I mean, the bit about the queue. Is that my fault? Well, yeah, sort of. So now I'm mad at myself. But haha! I can just about have a go at pinning it on the government. It won't quite hide my portion of the blame so I'll have to go mad at everyone in an attempt to block that thought out. How many silly arguments do you think that will take? Loads. That's how many.

If it helps, I can suggest that you are wrong

So you would need anywhere between 12 and 17.5x the number of infections to see a similar impact on hospitals. This seems extraordinarily unlikely.
