It’s almost as if NYE is a little bit shit and people are hitting house parties rather than pubs.

Mild night - if I stand in my back garden and look around I can see the reflection of BBQ's on about 3 houses - if so people are sensibly partying in the open air

While I agree with most of that , where I live 3 pubs are shut tonight through lack of staff , 2other pubs are restricting numbers and shutting well before midnight.
Where I am pub is rammed. Lovely atmosphere with an 80’s disco going on.
Happy New Year one and all.

So what daily death figures are you predicting for the 20th Jan?
How many in hospital with it?
I'm predicting 500 or so. Simply because so many will catch it that after 28 days about a third of those would have died anyway will have caught it.
The numbers with Covid on the death certificate will be a lot less.

And no doubt a lot of punters are isolating too as they’ve tested positive. I don’t think too many have shit themselves so much that they’ve decided not to go out. Plenty would’ve probably avoided pubs in the run up to Xmas as they didn’t want to catch it and ruin their Xmas plans but that period is out of the way now.

Just setting off for the Arsenal game - with my 14 year old

Can anyone confirm that the need to show a Covid pass or equivalent only applies to over 18s please?

Thanks

Yes that’s correct.

What about people aged under-18?
· Under-18s will not need to certify their COVID status.

I was in a pub last night which had been open Christmas Day. Over half the staff and many regular customers appeared to have caught it from each other on Xmas day. Therefore last night was very quiet. And very cautious.

I’ve followed all the rules with Covid but is it just the right thing to do now and just lead a normal life? I think nearly everyone will be exposed to Omicron so is it worth isolating if you get it? I’ve posted before, my Dad is 89 next week, had a heart attack at 53 and takes medication to help. I asked him if he wanted his small family to test as we are in daily contact with him, categorically says he values his time with us over catching Covid.

I watched the Paul Whitehouse and Bob Mortimer fishing programme over Christmas, a Doctor Patel said loneliness is as detrimental on health as smoking 15 cigarettes a day.
