Coronavirus (2022) thread

Ain't Karma a woman. Still remember as a young kid reading the MEN about what he did and the fear he struck into communities. Just a shame that tax payers money kept him alive for so long, hanging would have been too good for him.
The best way to look at it is, we paid to keep him alive in shit conditions only for him to really suffer in death. As you say karma.

Just some numbers to cheer you up. Scotland ventilated patients fell to 18 today. So all four nations now have their lowest numbers since mid summer last year - pretty clear proof of the success in getting on top of serious disease in the UK.

In total as of now there are 437 Covid patients on ventilators in the UK.

This day last year there were 3230 coming out of that winter wave that peaked about 2 weeks earlier.

There were also 26,744 patients then. Currently there are 13,796.

So patients have halved but ventilated patients are one eighth what they were.

Just reading the posts from Friday and the spat between @Rammy Blue and @kaz7. It’s down to the individual but following isolation rules now in most cases is just not worth it. Everyone who now works, socialises or attends events will have been exposed to Omicron, you have either had it, got it or recovered from it (latter without even knowing).

Where it is important to follow the rules is when someone is in touch with a vulnerable person who is shielding.

This variant is so mild we now have to live life and get the country going again. Wales and Scotland persisted with a lockdown and it made no difference, crack on.
My household finally succumbed to Covid. All four of us, catching it for the first time in the space of 6 days.

Inevitable we would catch it, fortunately symptoms very mild, only me displaying runny nose and sneezing.

I get the isolation but the fact I can't go outside is a bit weird.

Glad I listened to you lot on here when vaccines were first mooted. I was hesitant but with your experiences, links to facts etc I'm sat on my couch bored shitless with the wife and kids. Better that than ICU.

Cheers all.

Do not be fooled by the high deaths today (314) - 294 of them in England.

They seem well up on last week (219) and will seem well down tomorrow because of the mess they made last week of working out the new deaths system.

The England hospital deaths fell week to week today from 294 to 258. That is the best measure of what really happened today.

Just as will be the big fall that will probaby happen tomorrow as the 552 UK & 519 England deaths then last week were artificially high as they included England numbers that should have been added last Tuesday.

So tomorrow will look like a bigger fall than it is probably just as today looks like a rise when it is a fall.

Cases are up 66,183 - up from 57,623 yesterday but down big from 112,458 last week - which is the key.

England only 58,453 - up from 48,601 yesterday but again down big from 103,353 last week.

Week to week always matters most as cases do vary day to day and are usually higher in mid week

Last week they rose by 20,090 Monday to Tuesday - so in context the rise of 8560 is actually better.

Still another 314 whenever they died

Of course it is, but why do you keep saying this as if I am trying to minimise that fact? When I am not. I have lost family to Covid like most people. So I know not to trivialise them.

Every death every day matters. But it was important to explain why the numbers are not quite what they seem to be today. That has nothing to do with the tragedy of any specific death. It just makes the difference between today seeming to be getting worse when in fact it is on track and getting better.

That is all.

I dont agree with daily numbers , everyone knows it is not really a 24hr figure and have done from early on, weekly say on whatever day of the week you like would be all we need , imho
