Coronavirus (2022) thread

Unfortunately, but not surprisingly, as it often happens on Mondays due to hold overs from the weekend - England patients are up today by 171 to 9229.

Last Monday the rise was 224 to 10,273.

London actually falls today, The other regions are all up by small numbers only.

However, the North West has the biggest influx in patients today - its most in some time sadly.

Up by 126 to 1378 V last Monday up 25 to 1509.

Numbers usually fall across the rest of the week. Hopefully they will again but this is an unexpercted jump as North West cases were very low over the weekend. I am wondering if care homes are a factor as these are rising in Northern Ireland where the over 80s testing positive have been escalating daily as cases there fall.

Admissions (from Saturday - always 48 hrs behind) - fall below 900 - on 834 - lowest since 18 December soon after Omicron took off.

Ventilators - however - remain better news - down today 12 to 292 - lowest since mid summer last year.

For the first time in months all of the 7 England regions have less than 100 on them - London falling to 98 today.

North West again though bucks the trend and is up 2 to 38 - but also still the lowest here since before MidSummers day last year.

I clicked the link. Brings you to a website to order a test kit. The NHS sign is in the top left corner but when I click it, it's only an image and not a hyperlink. Also, I filled out the form with fake details until it took me to asking for my card details
Sounds like one of Grant Schapps websites

The beginning of the end. Fantastic day.

Pretty much everyone I know is up in arms about what a terrible idea this is.

Personally I think it’s time to draw a line under this shite and just get on with life. One person I know said she was “sickened” people have stopped wearing masks in buses lol.

So many people have become accustomed to living with masks and endless rules they’ve forgotten what real life is like.

We can’t keep living under a cloud and spending endless billions on covid.

Correct. Time to start making decisions for ourselves and protect ourselves if we think we need to

The social media shame campaigns outing anyone who dares to walk into a shop without a mask will be horrific lol.

Mask wearing has collapsed in the last couple of weeks. For example, me and my wife were at a large garden centre last Sunday and there was barely a mask to be seen indoors and in the restaurant. As the demographic was mainly older adults with no teens / 20s you’d expect to see more of them. Same with supermarkets and so on.

This is a sincere question - are there any studies showing the effectiveness of masks with Omicron? I have no doubts whatsoever that back with the original variant they were useful, but this virus is absolutely ridiculously more transmissible than that first version. Genuinely curious as to whether they even do anything anymore given how well adapted it is to transmission now. They sorta feel useless, unless you're wearing a proper filtered mask, but maybe I'm wrong.
