Coronavirus: Football Discussion Thread

We're at game 29. The virus has receded just in time for the season to be completed, sadly without the fans.

You can twist it how you like but there's nothing more to it than that.

The obsession some have with LFC obscures the fact that the season could end with the Champions League trophy coming to Manchester.

its not just city fans thinking what JRockBlues has said.

So you think playing 2 or 3 times a week after a 3 month break is okay without a pre-season and with a vastly increased temperature than it would have without the virus occurring? Not to mention no home advantage without fans and neutral venues for some games but not all makes perfect sense. Then there's the changes to regulations that have been allowed such as 5 subs. Some players will have reached the end of their contracts and may not agree a short-term extension so squads may be different by the time games get underway but that's okay with you too? Teams will then probably be expected to go straight in to next season after all these games have been completed and then play throughout next summer also. But hey, who cares about player welfare. Let's just run 'em into the ground and who cares if they pick up career threatening ijuries as a result of fatigue.

You're the one who mentioned Livarpool, not me or many others who happen to feel that finishing this campaign compromises the integrity of this season. I do realise that if the null & void option was chosen then City could potentially miss out on 2 further cups this season but that means less to me than player's welfare.

Nothing more damaging than writing off a year - especially if it's unnecessary.

Think the premier don’t give a shit about where games are being played all they are worried about is the Money then a massive photo opportunity when the scousers win the league.

Just watch two games from Germany, both without fans. It was bloody awful, like watching paint dry. The so called heads of the Premier League have now corrupted the Premier League completely. The integrity has gone completely. There is no point in watching the Premier League until fans can go and watch the games. The rest of the games are going to be more like friendlies than a blood and guts Premier League game. How are the players going to motivate themselves when they come out to an empty stadium.

With players everyday coming out and saying that they have the Covid19 Virus. So how many more players have to come down with it, before they have the guts to declare it null and void. As players are tested before a game, it could be quite possible that a player could go through the game being positive for the virus and not know that he has the virus.

If you can get false positives, players might also get false negatives. So a player can be cleared to play, when really he should be stood down because he has contracted the Covid19 virus.

So we had to go to Anfield but the return game is to be played at a neutral venue and the Premier League maintain that this is a continuation of the same season! What a joke!

I still think they should have put this season on hold until fans are allowed back in stadiums and as an interim measure suggested a Cup competition for Premier League Clubs, with a similar format to the Champions League. The only prize going to whoever lifts the trophy and no impact on relegations etc.TV networks would have still paid to show the games and fans may have been more inclined to follow it given there would be no need for neutral venues meaning a level playing field (pun intended) for all teams. It clearly wouldn't be the same as the Premier League, but it couldn't be any more farcical than the nonsense the Premier League are serving up. I'll watch the City games because its City, but I couldn't give a shit about the rest of it.

I am in favour of the season completing as well mate. Clubs can’t continue to pay players enormous wages to keep twiddling their thumbs and we have another 2 major trophies to try to win.

Yes there are risks for the players, coaches and support staff from restarting the season but they are not being asked to be on front line in a care home or a a n ICU. A 17th June restart date gives players time to build on their base fitness they needs to be improved with game time. The 5 subs rule should help share the load.

Yes football without fans is a poor imitation but if we can complete the season then we can look forward to a more regular season next time round.
