Coronavirus: Football Discussion Thread

The virus kills between 1 and 3 per 1000 they reckon, mainly the older fuckers like me , i'm creeping into the higher risk categories but perhaps we should just get on with it? accept there will be death of 100 -200k and carry on as normal . It's only the old and sick, they probably voted for Brexit so perhaps a new referendum? Those that survive will have immunity? I can see the benefits We'd be free to travel, work, play but would Aussies? Your hopes lie in a vaccine or the disease withering on the vine

We’re free to work, play and travel here now. We’ll allow people in soon from countries (NZ will be first) that have also controlled the virus.
If a vaccine is found that’s great, but it’s not certain that even people who recover will be immune so it’s more likely that the disease will wither away, I hope so anyway.
I am absolutely not in favour of accepting 100-200k deaths in the UK, 2 of them would likely be my parents who have strictly shielded for over 2 months now. I wish I had been more insistent on getting them to move over here years ago.
When I left England the NHS was the envy of the world and now it doesn’t seem fit for purpose, it’s hard to watch from afar.

This virus is here to stay. It will change from year to year just like the flu. That's why every year those that can have the flu virus are asked to be immunised against the flu, just like me. Yes I do take up that option.

I can't see that this will change soon. We will just have to get use to it, and live with it. With a bit of luck just maybe we will be allowed back in the new year.

Regarding the March in town yesterday council leader Richard leese thanked protesters for their "exemplary behaviour".
So that tells me we can gather outside the etihad on match day but don't cause any trouble and we will be fine.

Wait until LFC win the title.

This region seems to be being forgotten in the fight against corona, in fact its looking like now London is safe fuck the rest of the country.

LFC title celebrations will exacerbate the situation so much.

It certainly renders the neutral venue shit to be just that.

Watching the Sunday cesspit this morning and they say there has been an horrific number of injuries in German football since the restart,o am sure the players are happy knowing chances are they will get some long term injury

Restarting has nothing positive about it except getting the dippers over the line

It wont be long before masks worn in public but social distancing will disappear, that will allow crowds back to large events with a degree of the risk being reduced to an acceptable level. Not before Christmas IMO though.

Yes Franny, I think you are right about the yoof's cavalier attitude to the virus. I'm knocking 60 now but in my teens and 20s and 30s I thought of myself as invincible - as do the yoof of today. On top of that the stats clearly show that it is the elderly who are really at risk from this virus or key workers who get a massive exposure to it, or those with an underlying condition. So why would the yoof worry about gathering together. You would hope that they would take a wider view and be mindful of older folk to whom they might unwittingly transfer the virus. But when I was their age I must admit that my selfish desires for fun with mates and the opposite sex and my passion for causes would have clouded my judgement.
I'm the same age as you, and fortunately retired so i've no problem isolating for the most part. Missus is a little younger but she has retired as well. I think i'm fit enough to survive it, and sometime in the future i dare say that will be put to the test. The missus is 5 years clear of neck cancer and suffers from costochondritis, so she's a little vulnerable and quite worried. I have no doubt the kids and youngsters will not really be affected too much but lack of discipline and care , dare i say Alertness, will transmit this disease fairly quickly and therefore the vulnerable will be open to more risk. As an engineering i'm kind of programmed to like order, rules and instructions and if that is what we are told to follow then i fall in line. Anyone not doing so, and doing so deliberately because they think it doesn't apply to them etc winds me up no end. There are degrees of breaching the current regs, i think most have bent a rule here or there but the current transgresssions and way out of line and fuck all is being done about it. Perhaps Boris doesn't want a full on confrontation over the race issue, but he is being played and it will end in tears. Me personally ,until i am given a vaccine or tested to say i have had it and i'm immune , i can only say my walking stick is getting more like a pick axe handle every day, i've given up being overly polite with people that don't give us space when we're out

No, democracies function despite citizens who are prone to irrational decisions, it is the one concept that confounds economists. You simply cannot calculate for irrationality. Your use of the words "nanny state" marks out your political persuasion, it is obviously libertarian and whilst many see good in libertarianism, in a pandemic it is close to insanity as basically what you are saying is that people should be free to bring death to others. You do not have the freedom to burn somebodies house down with them it, so why should you have the freedom to help spread a virus that may bring death to them. Any functioning states first responsibility is the protection of its citizens and you may think that you can trust people to behave sensibly but that is palpable nonsense, people are by nature irrational, it is a human trait and that is why countries have rules based societies and laws in place so that a society can function.

Yesterday saw mass demonstrations across the nation, whether you agree with the or not is not the issue, but it shows that people will act irrationally and therefore trusting them to behave sensibly is not going to happen. When Liverpool win the league will their fans act sensibly? I am certain they will not and I am certain they will flood the streets of Liverpool and try their utmost to be at or in the ground when they finally win the title, because it is their passion and passion breeds irrationality.
Rascal, i couldn't have put it better. I would have added though that our democracy elected these people to take decisions and manage us through this crisis.
