Coronavirus: Football Discussion Thread

They’ll probably scrap the carabao cup to make way for the extra games. But obviously it all depends on when next season starts

Other factor is can you see UEFA helping domestic leagues at their own expense. They will shaft the leagues to make sure they get their own competitions (Champs League/Euro 2020) completed first. Cant believe anyone would think different with their track record....

Maybe, just maybe, this could end up being the scenario that bursts the bubble. Plenty of people over the past few years have questioned how long the financial madness of (top) professional football could continue the way it has been going. Nature and life generally have a way of restoring the natural order of things. Just a thought, fellow Blues.
Instead of maybe, I would say probably. All of the “expert” talk in terms of time frame talks about delay phase so we can spread the strain on the NHS into the summer. Also talk of next winter being another wave. If that is correct then all of this about this season is just an irrelevant footnote.

The airlines will go out of business, insurance companies too. We are probably looking at a Great Depression unless we can come up with a modern day solution that avoids it. I will still post about LiVARpool though as we have to get our pleasure where we can.

I miss Karen's team news and her telling me off.
I miss doing the team news and games threads and all that,i don't know how i will fil! the void,i am guessing it won't be back till august at the earliest, correct of course that is not in doubt,it will just be horrible without it

I can still tell you off every day if you want ha

I’m interested in what the potential long-term financial implications could be of all this. I think a lot of people expect League One and League Two teams to really struggle but most Championship and Premier League teams have huge cost bases that they can’t reduce easily and many have large debts to manage. They all have eye watering wage bills but everything holds together because they have huge revenues from TV and sponsors. So if we don’t see Football again until Sep 20 or Jan 21 or even Mar 21 what kind of position are the 20 Premier League clubs going to be in - if the TV revenue as expected drys up ! Someone like Spurs have gambled everything - no Football and no NFL could destroy them? I’m just thinking the haggling over the title or relegation may be the wrong debate. The very future of a few clubs could be at stake. I’d sooner bees than the Rags... this crisis could give us a huge financial advantage.

I wouldn't argue with that. As you say, most likely 'probably' rather than 'maybe'. We really are in uncharted waters now.

Brady has received stick for saying what is the only option but cancelling the season completely HAS got support in some sections of the media. There is no chance that the football will resume in April when the peak is supposed to be in June , but that will mean at least 2 more months of players catching it at the tail end, then a few weeks to get match fit , then possibly start to finish the season
Youre talking playing on into October at least i think. Players planning to leave will leave - can't stop them if contracts are run out , so its going to be messy. No option will please everyone, people suggesting trying to finish the season are just guessing at stuff and avoiding potential legal challenges from teams disadvantaged , The simplest and fairest is to go with Brady , and who wouldn't want to get behind Karen?

Yes. It would help if PL, La Liga, Serie A & Bundesliga could harmonise their restarts. If some countries have started their 20/21 seasons and others are still playing their 19/20 seasons then 20/21 Cl can’t start as not all qualifiers would be known. Hence I expect UEFA will pressurise countries to draw a line under 19/20 season before September
