Coronavirus: Football Discussion Thread

Let's suppose the 19/20 PL season resumes in September to play out the remaining fixtures. The Transfer window would have come and gone. Relegation threatened teams might have suffered an exodus of their best players, thereby worsening the survival chances. Promotion teams in the EFL may be able to recruit new players for the final push, and thereby increase their expectation..
What would happen to our FAC or CL challenge if, (Big IF), players like KdB, Mahrez, Sterling have been poached by PSG, Madrid or Barcelona or Leeds?
The Rags could spend a fortune during the window and "buy" 4th place (or 5th as necessary).

It won't.

The only question now is if 2020/2021 will start on time, which is doubtful anyway. It will become clear in a couple of weeks when all these scenarios being played out on social media become unworkable. Broadcasters, sponsors etc have agreements that the season starts so they can show the PL, FAC, League Cup etc - the only realistic way to move on is to mothball the 2019/2020 season and hope the world is back to relative normality by late summer

If there is no football allowed for 12 months at least it could be time to restructure the whole of the leagues rebrand it all for August next year! My earlier post on here is how I would change it.
I agree the whole structure needs sorting with top two as you suggest and then league 1 then a league 2 North and league 2 South the teams in the lower divisions would benefit from travel cost savings and more local derbies, 2N & 2S would be made up of whats left of the the current bottom divisions and conference clubs. Id take it even further, but it would meet too much resistance, and force clubs to merge eg Stockport and Macclesfield become Cheshire East. A franchise system could be introduce , dirty word i know, this would then control owners who would have to provide a financial bond If this goes on for any extended time football will emerge looking very different

Yep good idea about having northern and south leagues but to keep this football pyramid strong I would distribute the money better, like post earlier every premier club have just for example 2 millions less and the parachute money all going down the pyramid of football. The idea of my previous post to have the possibility of four being relegated give those teams a better chance of coming up again the following season. The 3 straight up and the 4th And 5th play each other then that winner plays the bottom four in premier gives you the play of games of sorts for the tv.

Exactly.
At the moment sport is completely irrelevant

Actually, I've been thinking about this (I'm in lockdown, so I've got quite a lot of time to think), and I have to disagree. Fairly strongly, in fact. I believe that, with the necessary adjustments, we've got to carry on caring very much about the things we've always cared about. If we sit around and think only about COVID-19 and am I going to get it? aren't I going to get it, are my loved ones going to get it? are they not going to get it? it's not constructive, and that way madness lies.
Like the sadists that we are, we should carry on chortling about the prospect of Liverpool not winning their first title in 30 years. (Edit: they will be awarded it, one way or the other…)
If it's important to you, whatever it is, it is important. Hang on to that. And carry on bantering.

They can have the fucking league, as that’s what the PL will do, but it’s looking increasingly unlikely that they will be Centurions. Given I already got used to the idea of the former, it will be fucking excellent if they never get the latter. CUNNTS
