Coronavirus: Football Discussion Thread

Lets face it the virus is here for the foreseeable future. I don't think anyone thinks in reality that we wont still be seeing cases late into this year, possibly early 2021. So I cannot see this season being finished or the next one starting.
It is therefore just a case of postponing everything and any decision until we know what is going on.

And what will fuel or lead that decision? MONEY!
They cancel season, null and void and all the money they will have to pay back to the TV companies, sponsors etc plus having to pay out to teams for the time and effort for the 28/29 games played. Not something thy will want to do.
Then we have potential 20/21 season. The PL will be crapping themselves as to what sort of deals they gonna get from sponsors and the penalties or cut in income if the season gets delayed.

It is sad for all supporters and employees of clubs, especially lower league clubs. I have had some great days out watching gams at Aldershot, Barnet, S****horpe & Maidstone and fear that many are going to go the way of Bury if this goes on much longer.

Contrary to many of the conspiracy theories I have read on here (Liverpool thread), it's not any bias that is holding up a decision, it's all about the money

Perhaps it's too early but how does that reduce the number of teams?
And more to the point how do you get the PL to vote for an 18-team League? Five down would mean that everyone bar the traditional top-six (and maybe some of them) would feel threatened with relegation.

It ain’t going to happen. Unless there is another breakaway? That would require the FA to be on board.

I`ve been saying for a few years now, that we need to revert back to the old Leagues (Div 1 and 2) of North & South.Look at the money saved there by clubs on transport costs and more "local type" derby games would hopefully see larger attendances.
The fuckers currently should appoint me as the FL Chairman I`d put the fuckers right. ;)

Liverpool ARE money. They're establishment, they earn money for the PL and the media.

A number of clubs expect the Premier League to push back the April 4 date they set for the resumption of football. All 20 clubs will discuss on Thursday how to complete the season but no decision is expected beyond a broad commitment to try and do so by June 30

It is unlikely that a proposal to play Premier League games behind closed doors and a neutral venues will gain much support. The idea would be for two to three stadiums in one part of the country to host the games with players being kept in hotels.

@TeleFootball

That will be a hot bed for infection, stupid idea

The definition of popular has changed, popular now means how much your club generates that's not indicative of how much passion and urge your team and fans have got. How has watching a full house at St James's park changed without wall to wall sponsorship, VAR. the sit down and shut up police?

Bring it back 20 levels, football wasn't broken let's cut these greedy vultures out of our game.

The way I see it one of two thing s will happen. The first is that all clubs will agree to suspend all football for the foreseeable future, even if that means that season 2019/20 will continue sometime in the New Year 2021. The option is to null and void this season start the 2020/21 season as it should be sometime next January and run it through to the end of November.

With more and more cases of this virus emerging everyday. There is no way that the football bosses at the FA, Premier League and other football bodies can consider even starting football again on April 3rd/4th. They may insist on games being played behind closed doors. However how do you stop fans from turning up at the gates of the stadiums. If fans turn up what are you going to do. Ask them to go home and turn them away. It could end up being more dangerous to turn them away then let them in.
