Corruption in English football?

Looks like this all related back to 2016 and a slew of accusations around managers, agents and player bungs. It was reported at the time. It coincided with the Sam Alerdice England sting but that wasn't part of the investigation.

I’d be pretty amazed if a certain north west-based agent with a proven history of perjury and bare faced lying isn’t involved in this
There's quite a wide group of people who fit that description including at least three people who are close relatives of former prominent North West Football Managers!

When it happens I think it will be like a house of cards and one falling will lead to the rest. I'm actually surprised at how slow-burn the Platini thing is but I think there will be many ripples out from that.
Yes I agree with this. There will be a little trickle followed by plea bargaining and exemptions from prosecution. There will be a queue of legal/Police folk with a beady eye on promotion.

football/players/coaches/managers/agents/officials it all has to be bent ? to much easy money flying round and years of turning a blind eye to it all has now flagged up

the heads that control of the corruption is what the law should be going after and not the pawns or runners at the bottom of the ladder. mark my words when i say NOBODY should be let off the hook even if its 20 odd years ago
if your found guilty you should be given jail time

but the football mafia runs deep and the amount of money involved is crazy and the top people maybe to big or untouchable and it will never be cleaned up

Agents and players fees - in the early days of the PL was easy money, with agents and managers pocketing vast sums of money... if you look back at a transfer that you thought was dodgy at the time, an unusual signing or strangely high fee, chances are it was a nice little money making racket.

The Times story is quite complex, but it seems that there have been cases where agents and players have fallen out which have gone to arbitration. In those cases agents have used phone records to illustrate that they have been undertaking work on their client's behalf. The criminal / corrupt bit is that they have been able to generate false phone records and the Times alleges that this is the work of company called Sport Mobile. Here's a quote from the article:

"One former member of Sport Mobile’s staff signed a witness statement in which he claimed that he helped a top football agent to change phone numbers on his bills before an arbitration hearing in which he was in dispute with a prominent Premier League footballer. There was no suggestion that the footballer had been aware of the claimed action."
