Could public services realistically be fully renationalised again?

To be fair that was a BR starved of investment so as to make privatisation look attractive - if ALL the subsidy given to private companies now was given to the railways to use rather than spunk on management bonuses and share holder divi's it could be quite different
Nationalised businesses will always be starved of investment. It's the nature of the beast.
BR was just bloody awful though. If you think Northern/Southern/Virgin/Trans-Pennine are shit you really haven't seen anything.

They only need be given what the privatised railways are now but not give any to the shareholders and bonuses as I say - instantly that means more of our cash to spend on the railways.
Nah - have them separated from the Gov minister in charge - who always stick an oar in with their vanity projects. It's much better that way. Especially as all our current politicians are totally, utterly and completely inept. Every single one of the feckers.

Now is the winter of our discontent is a line from Shakespeare that came a bit too close to home for some people because of the unions in this country and their stranglehold on the labour market and governments. In my opinion there could be nothing worse for our people or economy than have the movement held to ransom by more government workers again.
Saying that, there has to be better way of doing business than we have at present.

You are aware that Trades Union membership has more than halved since 1980? Over 33m in employment in the UK - fewer than 6m in organised workplaces - and thats a threat?

Of course I am aware but I am also acutely aware of what happens to publicly owned companies historically. IF the government nationalises industries then unions will get a lot stronger, it's naive to think otherwise. That could mean we're all sat in the dark looking for grandmas teeth again.

How? If the current hurdles remain in place to establish recognition in the workplace then there is an uphill battle. There is also the fact that workers have had years of being told unionisation does nothing to help them and living on payday loans and a week to week existence hardly leaves room for the "luxury" of trades union subs.............. far too many peple just look at the 1970's and assume there would be a return to those labour relations overnight because they buy into the same myths.

People who work for the government still go on strike that's who we are discussing, we aren't discussing people who work for private business.
