Man Airport has shut because of 4cm of snow. Which is what they have termed Heavy Snow. A laughable excuse for their poor management. Personally I don't see a reason why the game will be called off.

If it is deemed necessary to clear snow from runways and taxiways due to safety concerns, how else can you do it, without closing the runways for a period of time?

Snows about every 3 to 5 years for a couple of days. It's usually melted within a few hours. There'd be a massive outcry if there were millions of pounds worth of snow plows etc. sitting around doing nothing

There must be a cost associated with closing the runways and therefore effectively closing the airport? Also, don't they have a duty to the airlines and their customers? It sounds like the attitude is 'oh it's snowed, fuck it, close the airport, we can't be arsed, it's not our fault we haven't got or couldn't be arsed to hire a few pieces of kit that would easily prevent all of this'. Absolutely unacceptable. Having the kit and infrastructure to keep the airport open and running is, or should be a basic requirement of the business. Just about sums up Manchester airport, how it is run and the total lack of regard they have for their users / customers.

This country is a joke with snow

I used to spend a fair bit of time in Russia in winter and flying out from there every few weeks. They just got on with it. Sort out the runway,De-ice the wings and get the flights going. Same as in South Korea where my missus is from, most winters are about -10°c
or colder. When we’re there in winter, you just get on with it, as they do with flights

A little bit of snow or ice in England and they shite themselves
