Could tonight's game be called off?

There must be a cost associated with closing the runways and therefore effectively closing the airport? Also, don't they have a duty to the airlines and their customers? It sounds like the attitude is 'oh it's snowed, fuck it, close the airport, we can't be arsed, it's not our fault we haven't got or couldn't be arsed to hire a few pieces of kit that would easily prevent all of this'. Absolutely unacceptable. Having the kit and infrastructure to keep the airport open and running is, or should be a basic requirement of the business. Just about sums up Manchester airport, how it is run and the total lack of regard they have for their users / customers.
It's not that simple.

The runways are closed whilst they wait for the snow to stop and then once it stops the plows are sent out to get it opened so that it stays open. It doesn't snow for long in the UK so it's worth waiting and clearing it for good. Imagine how hard it would be to keep a 2 mile stretch of a motorway clear in constant snow.

They could send the plows out clearing constantly with planes landing in between but then the amount of planes that can land at a time is reduced so they'd have to hold in the air. Planes waiting in the air means they use more fuel and so most airlines would choose to divert anyway.

There's no way that airlines like Ryanair or Easyjet will sit waiting in the air for more than half an hour. They'll often divert for any delay which puts them into reserve fuel (and that's famously why they don't carry as much...). In the UK it's also not like in Canada, Norway or Finland where there is nowhere to divert to. Most coming into Manchester can divert easily into places like Liverpool or Birmingham where it probably won't be snowing and it's only down the road relatively speaking.

Other countries are better because it happens more often and so they have more equipment and sometimes full-time crews. There's no point in that for Manchester where it happens perhaps 2-3 times a year.

They'll be no issues rearranging the game. If we'd have got to the Carabao Cup final we'd have had to cancel a game so there's deffo space.

I think I'm the only one hoping it's called off. Freezing cold. Would rather stay at home in my onesie next to the fire
Yes, give your fanny a wipe and get to the ground.
