You're figures are wrong "bro".

£1000 000 / 40 = £25 000

And thats not even taking into consideration inflation, random cash withdrawals and or unexpected expenses.

See my detailed and professional explanation above.

You wouldn't put £1m under the mattress and dip into it for £25k per year. Not unless you licked windows for a hobby.

-- Fri Dec 02, 2011 3:12 pm --

Fuck off twat
You were talking bollocks though and told another poster their dream was a delusion, backing it up with amateurish figures.

I remember saying (somewhat foolishly) to my dad in throwaway comment some 13 years ago that half a million 'wasn't a lot of money these days'. I didn't mean it to come out like it did, I was just trying to convey the fact that it wasn't as much money as it used to be.

He asked me how much I earned - at the time I was on about £36,000, so I told him. And he said, no, how much do you actually receive which I worked out at about £25,000. Then he said how long would you have to work without spending a penny to earn half a million pounds.

20 fucking years. So double that for a million quid.

I could easily live a comfortable life for a million quid. As long as you ddin't go mad you'd be fine.

BTW this comment has come back to haunt me as my dad still reminds me of it at least once a month to this day.

Follow my example and you could have £50k pa (after tax which is none) and not even touch your capital.

yes i could, 250k interest a year, i live on 16k now so living on 250k would be easy

Yes is the answer if you can avoid temptation. I'd stick it in an account and live off some of the interest. Just enough to pay a mortgage and food etc with a couple of holidays a year. I'd probably spend the rest of the time learning.
But would I really want to? No.

I would have to do something to give some worth to society. And I would probably only take a few years off to learn before going into a different career.

Can I just say that anyone that puts £1m into a bank account is stark raving bonkers.
