Council to buy Edgeley Park to stop developers buying it

The day Kennedy walked into that club was the worse day in county's history.

Being as how I lived in Hazel Grove at the time, went to County a few times out of sheer boredom, way, way back, while waiting for the real match on the Saturday. That's one of the reasons why I'd find it odd City playing on a Friday night. For me, Friday night was always County night. Didn't go often, it was just too dismal, to be honest. Once went to a cup match between them and Everton, with people almost hanging from the rafters, it was that packed out.
Something I never quite worked out. In so far as they have another club, are County fans generally blues or rags? What do people reckon?

a mixture of both there are loads of united fans in stockport, to be fair though there are a few actual county fans swell, they wouldn't be in the mess they are in if more people from stockport actually supported there local team. I go to county matches when i can.

Had to laugh, after reading a feature from a 1979-80 match programme, just after City had signed Stuart Lee from County.

Lee claims that he had always been a fanatical City fan, and unlike the thousands who pretend to have been there, he was definitely one of the 8,000 who had endured the infamous Swindon debacle in 1965.

I bet he wasn’t at York

I’m from Stockport but in terms of distance there was not much between maine rd and edgley park in terms of distance, it was a bus ride in one direction or the other. You also have to factor in the usual circa 2 or 3 league gap from City to County over most of the last 100 years so supporting both is/was fairly common.

I was born and grew up in Hazel Grove, so County were the first games I went to on my own. I'd been going to watch City with my Dad since I was 8, but when I was 14 or 15, me and a couple of mates (one Rag, one County fan) started getting the bus into Stockport occasionally to watch them on a Friday night. To me, there was never any issue or feeling of conflicy with this.... one team finishing in the bottom half of the 4th Division every year, and another constantly in Division one-and-a-half. City were always my first team, but that's not to say I didn't quite enjoy some of my time watching County (they were even the first team I saw play at Wembley as I was living down South in the mid-90s).

So it's quite sad to see the state they have ended up in. Appalling mis-management, and the crappy deal they made involving Sale Sharks were just too much of a burden to carry for a team getting gates of 3-4,000.

Found my way back to live football and introduced it to my daughter in the late 90's at County - and because of that I got to a few City games during the last season at Maine Road, so I have no gripe with County whatsoever as without them I may never have got that chance to take her to Maine Road in 2002 / 2003.

For the Everton away in 2014 we were on a stag do at a bar in Barcelona watching the match. It was on the front, the owner was a Blue.

I was sat next to an American guy watching the game and he said he was now a Blue as Stuart Lee coached him in the USA when he was younger.....
