Cover versions you think were better than the originals

I'm not the greatest fan of Frankie Goes to Hollywood, and I rate Bruce Springsteen very highly and it feels wrong to say it but but for some reason this blows the original out of the water. His voice and delivery suits the lyrics better

Much as I admire your taste dlbh I think we're in agree to disagree territory on that first one. I've always thought it's a cleverly arranged and executed version by seasoned professionals but in doing that completely misses the point of the song and strips it of its charm.

I remember the original as one of the first synth pop records to show that electronic music could have a warmth and a soul. It's such a simple progression that only comes to life through the layering of the mono synths to create a basic poly effect. The musical naivety is complemented by the simple yearning lyric. Notwithstanding Alison Moyets older than her years vocals, to see two young people stood looking like they were ready to deliver a killer dance track then perform a simple timeless love ballad with a modern electronic sound was a magical moment to me at the time.

There's been loads of covers over the years none of which I think come close to the original. There probably is room for a world worn interpretation of the lyric from an older singer but I've not heard it yet.

We will have to agree to disagree.
I loathed and still loathe synth electronica (I won’t call it music).
Alison Moyet had a good voice but wasn’t my cup of tea.
I thought the Pickets were superb.
