I’m a big Northern Soul fan but the Soft Cell version of “Tainted Love” is vastly superior to the original by Gloria Jones.

Forgot to mention “I Think We’re Alone Now” by Tiffany in 1987 which is so much better than the Tommy James & The Shondells original in 1967.
Tiffany was one of the few singers in the late 80s to perform live on TOTP and that girl could sing. Check it out on YouTube.

Adele “Make You Feel My Love”. The original Bob Dylan version is utter pants. Any cover of a Bob Dylan song is better in my opinion.
The only time my labradoodle has quit the room when I’ve been listening to the radio was when a guest on Desert Island Discs chose a Bob Dylan song - with awful harmonica to the fore. Can’t remember the title.
